I don't totally hate NASCAR, per se...but the Speed Channel is going to suck from now until the fall.

I'll watch the couple of road races they do each season. I think stock cars are kinda cool...I just think oval racing sucks.

I don't like stock cars in their current incarnation. They are too primitive.

I agree that having a jack man in this day and age is silly, but the primitive aspect keeps the nostalgic feel. When was the last time you saw an F1 car come into the pits to get the plug wires checked?

I guess I don't have any "nostalgic feel" for cars using the same basic technology that they were were using years before I was born (in 1985). I'm not hating on pushrod smallblocks, but shit they can't even get to 12 year old early LS1 level of technology?

And now they are going to fuel injection soon and I bet it will still be some 80s bullshit throttlebody injection with a distributor. And the geezers have been claiming that it would be too easy to cheat or too hard to limit performance with EFI. Uhh no. That's what torque control tables and speed limiters are for. Put everyone on the same engine management architecture and you can increase or decrease engine performance with the click of a mouse. Having a knock control system would also reduce blown motors due to tuning mistakes.

^^^ See, I'd much rather them keep it old-skool and primitive. 4bbl carbs, live axles, iron-block pushrod engines, no computerized stuff.

I just wish they'd do, like, 50% road-racing.

I wonder if they get tired of turning to the left?

After the tires wear down, they do mirror laps and the car automatically starts drifting to the right...

It's not all about the technology, Ray. As a matter of fact, other than telemetry, there's damn near NO technology there. A lot of it's about tradition...and as much as anything, stock cars are a time-honored seasonal ritual. I can't fault that.

This is a slice of Americana, man. Just like chili-burgers with slaw. Natural Light. Big hair. Rock 'n roll. And raw, archaic V8s making beautiful music. It might not be your style, but that doesn't mean it doesn't have merit...

I'm not a big NASCAR fan at all, but that doesn't mean I don't appreciate it for what it is.

I can tell yah there is no finer sound than the first lap of any race. 30 v8s floored is music to my ears.

There may be a select few. But it sounds damn gooooood

this thread reminds me of when I asked my body shop guy if by "late model (racing)," did he mean corvettes, mustangs, and cowmaros

I've never been much for NASCAR, but we used to get free tickets for Rockingham every year, and there is no finer sound than all those V8s spooling up at once, especially if you're over in Turn 2 and hear it waft over just before they arrive.

My Dad took me to pocono, richmond, rockIngham, lowes motorspeedway as a kid. I enjoyed it. Its fun in person, ok on tv for 30 minutes. After that I get lulled to sleep by Waltrip talking about tire pressure and caution flag strategy. A great wY to nap out on a Sunday, lol that's all my dad does to it now

I grew up with Nascar, my pops used to hang out at Dales shop before he was The Intimdator. When i was a kid, the Nascar drivers were mens men. Gruff, rough around the edges, and just generally rednecks. The type of guys you wouldn't want your daughter dating. Even pretty boys like Davey Allison weren't outright mamas boys or anything. And I don't know if I got older or something, but the current drivers just feel like pussies to me. Like a punch of pip squeaks crying that someone bumped them and shit.

And to make it worse, Nascar turned the sport into ARCA. I want to see different bodies out there, not everyone in the same ride with a different mfg tag.

In a nutshell, I doubt I ever like Nascar again so long as it maintains it's current incarnation.

^^^^

Yep.

Between that and a severe shortage of right-turns, I have little interest in NASCAR nowadays.
