why do you need one? nobody actually charges as long as you bring it back. they'll charge for the trash can, ice, and put a deposit on the rest. if you really need a shell though i think i might know somebody with one.. 2/15/2011 12:12:44 AM |

I am still pissed at my room mate from 2006 throwing away the 10 or so I had accumulated and that the fucking aluminum can diggers ended up with them.

Yes, I just want to purchase an empty shell.
I'll be using it as a giant pot to boil homebrew in. 2/15/2011 7:47:06 AM |

Yeah, that seems to be the popular way to acquire kegs. Not really the route I wanted to take though.
What's the deposit on a keg these days? Isnt it like $100 in raleigh? 2/16/2011 10:19:47 AM |

The deposit is nowhere near $100, I can't remember exactly because I haven't purchased a keg in a while but it's more in the $20 range 2/16/2011 12:28:17 PM |

Well, I know it USED to be cheap...but they're also making a copy of your license these days and tagging the kegs (from what I hear) so that they know where their kegs are. 2/16/2011 2:14:12 PM |

The problem they were running in to was that when metal prices were high the deposit did not cover the value of the keg....
Like you could take a keg to the scrapyard and get more for it than the deposit was, when I was younger the deposit was $10, then it went to $20, I have no idea what it is now but I do recall there being major issues with empty kegs being stolen from restaurants and people taking the shells to the scrap yard.
I do not think there is any way that its $100. 2/16/2011 10:18:09 PM |

on the BEER/KEGS tab they say the deposit is $30.
edit: hmm then they say there's a $5/day fee, so i dunno.

at total wine deposits are $30 and they give you a receipt. if you return the shell with the receipt you get $30. without the receipt $20.
are most kegs made out of stainless steel or aluminum? 2/17/2011 6:00:50 PM |

Sounds like the deposit is $30 now.
When it went from $10 to $20 they did the same thing...giving you the old value of $10 since you had no way to prove you paid $20 unless you had a receipt. 2/17/2011 11:09:27 PM |

Looking for a 15.5 gallon stainless steel keg. Is getting one from total wine and not returning still a good way? What's the going rate from a private seller? I've seen them anywhere from 75 to 125 on craigslist. 1/4/2014 8:01:20 AM |

You pay $30 and keep the keg...no big deal. They don't care whether you bring it back or not....if you do happen to bring it back they give you your money back, however most people just use it like the propane rapid exchange where you bring back an empty one and get a full one and pay just for the beer. 1/4/2014 10:10:45 AM |
