I'm going to see this show on Sunday (in Charlotte).
I've wanted to see a Cirque show for a long time, but the timing has never been correct. I had other shows that I wanted to see of theirs as well, but I've never heard of a bad performance from them.

They are in Charlotte, at a tent they built at Lowes Motor Speedway from March 3-20, and they have shows every day but monday.

Anyone else going to see them while they are in town?

saw Mystere and O and loved both. Totem is a brand new travelling show for 2011 and Charlotte is actually the very first stop on the north american leg of the tour. I may try and check it out.

Have fun! I saw Corteo in 2009. It was alright but not nearly as acrobats heavy as ones I've seen on TV. I need to check out another performance sometime.

Is the setup at Lowe's any good? I'd be interested in going if the setup is like it would be in an arena.

^^^the big top tent is designed and set up by Cirque du Soleil themselves and it travels with the show to every stop on the tour, so I have to imagine it's perfectly suited for the show.

Not at all surprised that Jeepin4x4 is a subject matter expert on a dramatic mix of circus arts and street entertainment.

I'll be going in two weeks. My gf loves their shows, and this will be the first I've seen. I'd really like to see the adults-only show they've got in Vegas.

I think a good number of people from my workplace in Charlotte are trying to get some group rate tickets. Although there's been some backlash from the more devout christians that were on that email since Totem is supposed to display the evolution of humans from fish and reptiles.

I saw Cirque Dreams Illumination in Jacksonville, FL a few weeks ago and was impressed. From what I've heard it was a smaller show but it was my first one and I would definitely go back to another one. La Nouba in Orlando will probably be next on the list.

Well, I was very impressed with the show.
The first half was much more impressive than the second half. I kind of felt like they ran out of cool stuff to do, or started too strong and fell off at the end though.
The costumes and performers were amazing as expected.

yeah me too prob, it's crazy cirque eloize which IMO is like the main alternative group to CdS actually came to chapel hill of all places, and then cirque mechanics came to durham, hell even barnum and bailey was just here too, seems like a good circus year for NC, anyway I think totem should be one of their better shows, kind of a recovery the really goofy OVO show I heard

I am going to Alegria on Sunday. This will be my first Cirque du Soleil show so I am curious as to what in the world to wear. Thanks.

I just don't want to be dressed inappropriately relative to what other people are wearing. Hell, my preference would be a nice t-shirt, jeans and my chacos.

I enjoyed Alegria. One of the acts in the second half I think was different from the stuff I've seen before in Cirque shows and was kind of mesmerizing. I don't want to say what it is because I don't want to spoil anything for anyone though.

I am not normally a huge fan of the clowns, but I was mostly entertained by them in this one.

^^so awesome, Jason! That is about the only reason I would want to go to Vegas. Somewhat jealous but my excitement for you outweighs the negative. I did get to see Ka in Vegas.

I wanted to see this when it was in Charlotte. I was way too pregnant at the time with too many medical complications. I heard about it on NPR. I just love Cirque du Soleil.

I saw Alegria last night too, and the clowns were definitely my favorite part. They were hillarious!

But yeah, there were definitely some cool acrobatic acts in there too.

My girlfriend was disappointed that the multiple hula hoop girl wasn't in this performance. I thoroughly enjoyed it, and the clowns were great.

Found it! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ztXmzMvSXZ0

I went on sunday, it's still very much the same as the dvd I had watched from 10 yrs ago, I was kind of hoping for a little more evolution esp since it was one of their earlier shows but I guess they like to stay true to form, can't argue with the performances though

they did have two fire dancers and two contortionists vs only one before but likewise didn't have the duo trapeze, also put in the the metal hoop act for the hoola hoop act which was a fair trade off as they are both good, highlight for me was the strap act and the fire dancers as any performance with fire is usually awesome, I also didn't know they had a polyrhythm thing going on, I didn't even notice it in the music until I looked over at the musicians

one suggestion I would make would be to try incline the seats on the floor a bit, I had someone shorter than me in front and was having some trouble, if you have someone taller it might be tough, anyone buy the program or can post a list of the actual artists performing?

We had seriously some of the best seats in the house, and it was entirely on accident. 134N, seats 1-3. Why were they the best? Because they had no seats in front of them. Endless leg room and no heads in front of you to deal with

We were in the back row of the floor seats. Ended up propping ourselves up on the seats unless a trapeze act was going on. Very uncomfortable. At least the chairs were stable enough to support our weight.

Very good show though.

the seating is prob awesome for almost everyone in the tent shows but I haven't been to one of those yet, the second best seats besides the first row floor might really be the front of the center arena seats
if anyone is curious about the artists: http://www.cirquetribune.com/database/show.php?show=Alegr%EDa that list might not be totally updated though; I would have bought a program if they weren't 20 bucks

I was at the 5:00 show on Sunday (I think that was their last one here). Floor section 4 Row 2 Seats 1&2. It was incredibly awesome. I did have some chick in front of me with hair that occasionally got in the way but otherwise it was a great vantage point. It was a completely different experience being able to see the intense concentration that everything took and having the performers still smiling and making eye contact with the audience. I loved how the extras would interact with folks but not in a distracting way. Man, I wish hoola-hoop girl had been there though. I would have totally given her the googly eyes when they all came out at the end. And of course the clowns totally stole the show. Also, I thought that being practically underneath the high swing act at the end would prevent us from seeing much but in fact it was waaaaaay cooler being that close especially the flip dismounts at the end. By far though, out of this new version my favorite act was the balance beam flip routine and the clown part right after that was just hilarious.
