I was trying to reformat my hp pavilion dv6-1268nr and made the recovery partition the active/primary partition thinking that when i reboot it would boot the recovery partition and allow a clean re-install.
instead when i boot it goes black screen and doesn't give me any prompt or text..... nothing. I am guessing that this is due to the partition not having boot files or something.
either way, i went back into BIOS to boot to a repair disk i had made some time ago and so i changed the boot order to internal cd/dvd first then hard drive second. well, it still goes straight to the blank black screen and doesn't boot to the repair disk. I'm not awesome at computers so if someone knows what is going on or how to fix it i would appreciate it. 3/6/2011 9:13:00 PM |

Sounds like you've hosed your master boot record somehow. Why did you change the partition? They normally have a hotkey at the BIOS screen to get into the recovery panel. 3/6/2011 9:40:45 PM |

i read on a seperate message board that you could boot to it by making it active and then rebooting.
if i got my hands on a recovery disk could i boot to that disk and reformat using it? 3/6/2011 10:11:41 PM |

You could even reformat with a Linux LiveCD, although for re-installation you'd still need a recovery CD. 3/6/2011 10:16:24 PM |
