I have a 22in widescreen and a 19in square monitor hooked up to a single 1gb Geforce graphics card. I want to get another 22in widescreen because the 19in is annoying with the split screens of different sizes when I run certain programs. I'd hate to just throw the 19in in the closet or sell it for $20 - so what's the easiest way use all three monitors? Would I have to get a new dual slot graphics card that were linked, or can I just use a cheap 128mb graphics card, plug it in, and hook the 19in up to that, and somehow link it through the system? 3/12/2011 11:44:28 AM |

Displaylink was almost invented to solve this problem.

displaylink as long as you aren't expecting to do anything graphics intensive on it

Wait, so this display link will allow me to have two monitors hooked up on one graphics card, and then another through a USB port - with all flawlessly being able to be joined and used next to one another? How does the USB port recognize the location of the monitor in respec to the others? Right/left/middle 3/13/2011 9:30:15 PM |

The same way it would if you had 3 (or 4, or 5) video cards installed in your computer with a monitor attached to each one. There's a configuration utility built into your OS that allows you to tell it where the monitors are in relation to each other. 3/13/2011 10:00:48 PM |

Kind of a dumb question - but some monitors have USB ports on them. Could I use one of the ports and connect it to a USB port on the computer to add a monitor - or does the displaylink box produce the necessary code to link everything flawlessly? 3/15/2011 11:08:59 PM |

Those usb ports are basically a convenience by acting as an extension cable. You still need displaylink. 3/15/2011 11:37:17 PM |

For what it's worth I have an iogear and some offbrand from monoprice. Both are working fine in Win7-32, but only the iogear works in Win7-64. Both of them cause a driver conflict with Windows live and NVidia software color layers. You'll come home to a green screen, but it takes 2 clicks to fix. 3/16/2011 10:03:06 AM |
