*** NOTE - Limited to Firefox only, IE works fine***

I had this problem occur a while back too... here's the deal...

I have a Sony VAIO laptop with Windows 7. I allowed the computer's "VAIO Care" program to install some recommended updates (without bothering to look at what the updates were for).

After the downloads (was working on my computer continuously), I open up web browser and notice a lot of errors.

- the google main page - the google image is missing and only has "Google" in plain text.
- any webpages with flash or picture images are a complete mess
- Gmail is not able to load... the bar gets stuck and says:

Quote :
"Loading standard view | Load basic HTML (for slow connections)

This is taking longer than usual. Try reloading the page.
If that doesn't work, you can:

1. If you're on a slow connection, try basic HTML view.
2. For more troubleshooting tips, visit the help center. "

Last time - I stumbled into a solution by disabling a recently downloaded Java add-on, but that hasn't worked this time.

Thoughts?

You mean Javascript?

Have you tried re-installing Firefox?

I think VAIO Care put your computer into "Evil IT Overlord" mode.
