I know at Roscoes they batter the chicken in the waffle mix so it blends together really well and the syrupy sweet tea compliments the waffle syrup.

They used to have Chicken & Waffles at the downtown Woody's but I think they quit serving them a few years ago. I don't know anywhere in Raleigh that has them anymore.
