when you start out twitter, you are shouting to nobody. only time anyone hears you is if you mention a person or thing that they are specifically listening for (@ or #).

when you follow someone, you start listening to them shouting, and vice versa.

you can sometimes shout directly at a person (@), but no guarantee they will listen to you

if you hear someone shout, you can shout what they said over again (retweet)

also, like fbook, if you expect it to be private, dont put it on twitter

there is a way to yell so ONLY the person you are yelling at can hear, so to speak, but it is easy to screw up and is screwed up frequently by high visibility people.

I just got into Google Reader and I am soooo obsessed. I'm subscribed to random feeds/blogs and I share the things that are interesting. You can also "Follow" your friends and they share what they find onto your feed, too.

yeah i use lists - my home feed is useless to me. i put people into lists that i actually care to read tweets from. i don't follow all of the people in my lists either. i have lists for news that i skim to know what's going on. lists for tech, lists for interesting articles, lists for design, lists for various groups i'm involved in. multiple accounts even for some of the things i do - like i have one account purely to report what TV shows are downloading at home so I know while I'm on the go.

lists are vital.

i'm a part of the small 0.05% of power Twitter users though: http://mashable.com/2011/03/28/twitter-study-consumed/ so it's not something the average person would need to do.

twitter has replaced all my reading outlets - i no longer stumble, reddit, or GReader stuff - it's all piped through Twitter. and i read a lot. lol
