for most of you that don't care/know, i'm going to be a nuke in the navy. and for those that still don't care this thread is almost entirely for my own benefit anyway.

things i need to knock out in the next week:
1)make sure my sister is up to paying my bills for me while i'm in bootcamp
2)collect addresses and see people that might miss me during those ~2 months
3)enjoy the next week as much as possible
4)figure out how to deal with internet withdrawls
5)make a list of all the things that will happen in the next ~2 months I'd like someone to send me news stories about
6)think about getting around to reading that book slingblade gave me
7)make sure that I have being on a sub written into my contract ASAP so I can get a ton of backpay

list is incomplete, and i'm sure some one that might read this will have a suggestion for what I need to do besides that

22 March 2011, AO1 Vincent Filpi died aboard the Enterprise as a result of a non-combat incident.

I don't say that to inspire fear, but as a reminder to be careful and be safe. Also, thank you for choosing to serve in the military. I wish you the best of luck, especially in getting subs if that is what you desire.

Thanks for having the balls that most people don't by joining one of the Armed Forces. My best friend did 6 years in the Navy as a nuke, and while we give each other shit (I was Army-infantry), there's mad respect for each other as well.

Remember, basic and all that jazz is a game, play the game - which means stfu and do as you're told.

While you are in, take a percentage of your pay, and put it in a cd/savings every check, and don't touch it for anything. It'll be a nice little nest egg for when you get out.

Oh, and have fun your first time crossing the equator. lol


Until you ship out, go have fun, cut your hair into a mohawk, dye it some god awful color, get your fuck on. You'll miss these things while in basic, out to sea on a sub, etc.

I'll probably do something like that before I end up on a boat in 2+ years. I hear I can bring a laptop so I might do that. That or grab an android tablet

Was already planning on doing something similar. Was going to put ~500 away a month for the first few months while I buy a few things, save for a car, and pay off all my debt, and then significantly more after I am making more money, pay off the debt. etc.

He's won't be an AO (or an A[anything] for that matter) AO's handle all kinds of explosives and their job is inherently dangerous especially on the flight deck.
