End tax breaks to any American corporation that moves jobs from the US, bring the jobs back to the US and screw China. 4/5/2011 12:53:58 AM |

The OP and thread title are incongruous.
Neither GATT (really the WTO at this point) nor NAFTA have much if anything to do with tax breaks. 4/5/2011 2:03:06 AM |

Grumpy, I want to do all 3 things. I know NAFTA and GATT aren't related to tax breaks to corporations who end up moving jobs out of our country. 4/5/2011 5:48:59 PM |

Do you like being Europe's 3rd world nation?
http://www.latimes.com/business/la-fi-ikea-union-20110410,0,5341610.story
Quote : | "Laborers in Swedwood plants in Sweden produce bookcases and tables similar to those manufactured in Danville. The big difference is that the Europeans enjoy a minimum wage of about $19 an hour and a government-mandated five weeks of paid vacation. Full-time employees in Danville start at $8 an hour with 12 vacation days — eight of them on dates determined by the company.
What's more, as many as one-third of the workers at the Danville plant have been drawn from local temporary-staffing agencies. These workers receive even lower wages and no benefits, employees said.
Swedwood's Steen said the company is reducing the number of temps, but she acknowledged the pay gap between factories in Europe and the U.S. "That is related to the standard of living and general conditions in the different countries," Steen said.

Only you could take an article about a European company being shitty and somehow turn it into an anti-American thing. 4/12/2011 10:35:45 AM |

Grumpy, maybe the US should have 5 weeks of govt. mandated vacation. 4/12/2011 10:56:22 AM |

Sure. And then we can watch jobs leave the country even faster. I thought you wanted to prevent that?
Why would a company pay an American $Texas to do nothing on vacation when they could pay a Mexican $Fuquay Varina to work like a mad bastard? 4/12/2011 11:00:02 AM |

If you want more vacation then demand it from your employer. But why should you be forced to accept lower wages in exchange for more vacation time you clearly have no interest in? If your American Dream is to work yourself silly so you can save up enough money to retire early, why should the rest of us force you to do otherwise?4/13/2011 1:51:18 PM |

I think NAFTA may be a moot point now since China seems to have sucked up all those jobs instead. If I remember, NAFTA was supposed to turn Mexico into America's little manufacturing sweatshop and prop up their economic development, but the Chinese appear to have outmaneuvered them. 4/13/2011 3:00:22 PM |
