Budget?
Price a factor?
Upscaling a must?
Blu-ray possible?

We bought a Philips DVP5990 (DVP5992 is basically the same thing) for my mom from Best Buy for like $35 on sale a year or so back. It's pretty much so everything you seem to be looking for. It does 1080p upconversion over HDMI, and has a USB port and plays divx/xvid from USB or DVD-R. She liked it so much she ended up getting another one a few weeks later to put in her bedroom upstairs. I just checked online, looks like you can find them for under $50 now. 4/10/2011 11:38:25 PM |

If you want it to play MKVs off your NAS then I suggest the LG BD570. 4/11/2011 11:09:51 AM |

This one seems to do all of that as well. Any thoughts? 4/12/2011 9:55:48 AM |

^It looks like that one is the replacement model for the one I recommended, with the only noticeable difference being that it is region free (bonus!) It got some pretty stellar reviews on amazon as well. 4/12/2011 11:04:01 AM |
