Hey guys,
I've looked around online a bit and found a number of solutions and quite a bit of information on the subject -- However, I was hoping someone on here might have set up something similar in the past and could give some recommendations...
Basically, I have an old (Read: early P4) laptop and webcam that are getting absolutely no use at my house. What I would like to do is take these two older pieces of equipment and use them as an IP webcam so we can keep an eye on our dog throughout the day. I'm trying to figure out what would be the best way to go about getting this up and running. If anyone has recommendations from personal experience in regards to the best software to use for this it would be appreciated.
Thanks! 4/13/2011 10:46:09 AM |

In the old days I would run Windows Media Encoder and pop a hole in the firewall to peek in. But holes in firewalls are an even worse idea these days.
I think I'd use logmein and remote the machine. Then on the machine I'd open VLC player and get a viewing window of whats on the webcam.
Or you could use logmein and launch skype - which would add in 2 way audio so you could yell at the sucker.

Why not just signup for a free Justin.tv account and setup a private stream? I haven't researched this, but have used it a few times, and it seems like it should work. 4/13/2011 9:48:49 PM |
