I HATE talking on the phone.
And yet I do it like 700 minutes a month.
11+ fucking hours that would be cut down to ~2 hours if I had my way.

15 years ago you did not expect to have 24x7 access to people. You called, left a message, and they returned the call when it was convenient.
I bet your significant other would just prefer to chit chat in person and use the phone only when actually needed.
I do not keep a phone on my side all day nor do I ever plan to (unless it's a job requirement). And I don't hesitate to let it go to voicemail when a notorious chit-chatter calls me. Anything important can be said on the voicemail; even if it's just a message saying that it's important that I call you back.

I think voice mails are the fucking stupidest thing ever. The year I was not using my phone for work I had voicemail disabled......people finally grew a brain and started texting me if I did not answer. (or just texting to begin with)

My aunt hated it because she does not know how to text but she figured out that I would call her back later anyway there was no need to leave a message saying "hey call me"
