I didn't realize Earth Day was something one could hold a negative opinion on

especially since christians, those who take the bible literally or as a set of guidelines, should care about the earth as they were directed by god to be stewards of it

yay hypocrisy!

It carries the unmistakable odor of liberalism. So the far right-wingers and the people who feel that environmentalism infringes on their liberty are, of course, opposed to it.

The fact that people seem to think that Earth Day and Christianity are at odds with each other is new to me, though.

That GOLO thread is setting up for epic trolling.

Quote :
"Laura, I too am anti earth day, but you Christians have your own issues you contimue to deny. What about the Inquistions? Amazing how you all forget how many people you murdered back then. And what about all the Native Americans that were killed by the Christians when they came to America? My how we forget that muderous act. You do realize we killed more Indians than were killed during the Holacaust. And how about the great Pope who let all the Priests get away with raping our children? Time to man up and take responsibility for our actions."

Quote :
"where do you get your facts? Americans killed more than 6 million Indians? Never heard that before...I'm a Christian, and I'm appalled by acts against our fellow humans, both now, and in the past. Man is born in sin, and sadly, some people never understand the promise of the cross."

Quote :
"Lets not forget the Crusades. Such a tolerant and loving religion."

Quote :
"Could the anti-religion commenters keep your negativity to yourselves? Good Friday and Easter is very important to some of us."

Quote :
"praying hard for the all the non belieivers on this article. interesting that they will read it and then take the time to post. sounds like soul searching. happy easter."

The comments in this article make my head hurt.

http://www.wral.com/golo/page/1896337/?d_full_comments=1&d_comments_page=2&id=10042591#comments_block

I especially like this one:

Quote :
"How about if some of the dead beat parents volunteer to work in the schools. You shouldnt worry about what the state spends. How about if the parents support the schools with their time and their money! Public education is like public welfare--people expect it free. Parents get a deduction on their taxes. How about if people with dependents would be required to pay extra taxes. Parents are responsible for their children--not the state. We should cut out "all" spending for education. Pay for your own mistakes. Why do you expect taxpayers who do not have children to support your family?"

Yes, let's not fund education at all and end up with a nation of morons

The only green they care about is the stuff that lines their wallets.

I mean, if that owl wanted to live so badly why doesn't it just move? Don't they know that I am entitled to my 9mpg Escalade? The last time I checked, God put us above the animals...

The answer to environmental degradation makes them have to be more nuanced in their ideology. They'd have to admit that the absolutist stance that "all regulation is bad!" doesn't hold up.

Surprised the rabid homophobes haven't flooded this post yet:

This one made me laugh though:

Quote :
"When we launched GOLO more than four years ago, we wanted to create a
social network built around our community, a local Facebook of sorts. We
hoped that members would share content that would be of interest to
others with similar interests in the Triangle region.

That happened, though not to the level we had hoped. Users uploaded photos
of birds, landscapes and snowfalls. They wrote blogposts about politics,
schools, books and religion. GOLO also fostered new virtual
relationships, which led some members to holding real-world meetups with
their new friends.

These same individuals banded together to raise money for people in need
and support those fighting abroad and those grieving the loss of loved
ones.

Increasingly, we have witnessed the not-so-pleasant side of un-moderated and
anonymous Internet communities. Some visitors are bent on stirring up
trouble. They make personal attacks or post content not appropriate
for a media website.

We now find that most of our available resources are being devoted to
removing inappropriate content and trying to settle squabbles between
users rather than cultivating meaningful dialog and interesting
user-generated content.

With reluctance, we have decided to phase out GOLO. As of Friday, Sept.
30, we will no longer publish new content, including profiles, blogposts
and photos. We will, however, encourage registered WRAL.com users to
continue commenting on news stories. Those comments will be moderated
prior to posting.

The GOLO section front will be replaced with a new section called SHARE.
The section will showcase all of the ways that WRAL.com visitors can
contribute photos, video, story ideas and more. The biggest change is
that all content will be reviewed by staff before publication.

GOLO members who have posted content will have until Friday, Oct. 7, to
copy content they wish to preserve. After that date, we cannot guarantee
the availability of GOLO content.

We thank the GOLO contributors who took part in our grand experiment. We
enjoyed meeting you, and we look forward to your continued contributions
via SHARE and WRAL.com story comments.

AMEN! Just just typical Occupy Wall Street type "redistributing Wealth is good" propaganda our Dear Leader has been instructing them to do.

I have my concealed carry since 2009 [ gee, that was after the last election, huh?] I like 0.40 Hollow point 19 round mag [brand doesn't matter]. That way if say some Disadvantaged, " Challenged in some way youth' or a "Hard Working Undocumented Immigrant who just wants to better their life" threatens mine- I will defend myself until the Threat is gone.

Can't wait to see if this makes past the WRAL Censors, or Until the Nov. 2012 election day comes.
