in world war I, primitive tanks carried bundles of sticks on the front of their hulls which they dropped into trenches so they could cross them and the term for these objects is "fascines" but they could also be termed "enormous faggots" and basically if a wwI tank ever goes to mars and needs to cross the Valles Marineris it should strap merbig to the front of its hull

"The Blues" was non-existent before about 1900 (gospel and jugband, but no Blues). Of all of the old blues players, none said they learned it from their father. Two social factors made it come into being.

The first was the availability of cheap guitars due to the completion of the railroad and the proliferation mail order companies (Sears and Robuck, etc). Blacks still couldn't afford guitars new, but whites pawned them enough once they gave up.

The second factor was the realization that it was 35 years after the end of the Civil Wars and Blacks realized that very little had changed, and for all their hopes they still weren't getting shit in this world... And the Blues was born ... (See "Red River Blues" ... a history of Southeastern Blues.)

The first women's political meeting in the US was held in Edenton, NC. The British were so appalled by women meeting to talk about politics it was reported on by all the major British newspapers of the time.

And considering that I can type 100+ wpm, that is hardly what I would consider effort. I would say scouring the internet for an insult takes more effort.

Medieval China had the largest fleet the world had known to that point, built around several dozen enormous treasure ships. They were commanded by an admiral who carried his penis and testicles around in a box, because he had been forcibly been made a eunuch at birth. They sailed over an unprecedented area for the time, going as far west as Africa and (according to some) discovering the New World. So basically if China ever decides to launch its own version of the USS enterprise to discover things in space they should put merbig in charge.

---

It's not as good but hand to God I had the thing written in less than a minute. I didn't look anything up (although I should, because I can't remember the admiral's name).

I don't have any particular beef with merbig I just thought I'd point out that obscure historical burns can come from trivial knowledge rather than effort.

The word for giraffe in Chinese is derived from the word for dragon. Some historians believe a Chinese merchant ship went to Africa and brought back a giraffe, and the giraffe rampaged the port city when offloaded, leading to its name.
