I just love this body style. Nice engine too I-6 supercharged 335hp, 361ft.lb

Is that considered cheap? Anybody knows anything about these older astons in terms of reliability and maintenance. I am assuming it is super expensive...

I've always like those bodies, as well as the old Jag XK8's

You couldn't pay me to own either of those overpriced Ford piece of shits though.

supercharged xj40 is the same inline six setup as in the pre-v8 jag xjr.
~330 hp... jag guys love the inline-six, especially when the first few years of the new aj-v8 suffered a lot of trip-ups, like with the chain guides and degrading cylinder liners. Supposedly the jags didn't really get figured out until the 4.2L models in like 2002.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jaguar_AJ-V8_engine

overall though... if you're really interested in buying one, I'd take the jag over the db7. WAYYY more of 'em out there.

I was interested in an xjr v8 a while back, since they depreciate so hard, and I drove one, and really came away annoyed with the supercharger whine. My dad has an xk8 and the naturally aspirated v8 is very preferable, by sound alone, if not any other dimension.

rifling through some youtube vids, it seems like the supercharged v8 jags have always had a prominent supercharger sound, which is relevant here because I'm pretty sure I heard similar amounts of supercharger whine on a vid of a pre-v8 xjr, which would be the same engine as that DB7 you're interested in.

So, there's the other part of my pref for the xk8 over a db7. neither will be cheap to own. don't buy a vert. coupe please. :-D

... here's the sweet spot for xk8s:

too bad that one's in oregon.

yeah, here you go. this is the noise I do not want to hear when dipping into the throttle for a gratuitous acceleration burst.

They make cars for people like you... There's the Chrysler Sebring, the VW New Beetle or the PT Cruiser? If those are too many and macho, maybe you could do a Miata?

The whine is nothing a louder exhaust can't fix.

That black 03 is gorgeous. Yes I said gorgeous. Isn't that fabulous?

It's a pretty fair price for the mileage and being that it's a 6-cyl Aston.

I think a fair offer would be 23-24k, because it is in such immaculate condition and documented.

Here's a pretty thorough checklist of the common problems on the DB7 (basically air conditioning and electrics, like all pre 2005ish british cars)
http://www.nottingham.ac.uk/~pazpmw/BuyingADB7.pdf

And here's a thread of owners building up an alternative parts list to avoid dealer prices and services:

Built twin turbo aston martin... i mean really... who could beat that?

Bill.. James bill
(james is actually my middle name but it works i think)

Ahmet, the point is to have a v8 that snarls and roars and grumbles, not one that sounds like a blender. How anti-macho is that? The supercharged jags are much less in the spirit of hooning around than the naturally aspirated motors. I also felt the xjr's shove was so dependent upon supercharger speed that it almost had some lag to it, as though it were a turboed motor. Except without the eventual ultimate payoff of a big turbo. It was either silent or whiny. Listen to that YouTube video and then watch and listen to one for the naturally aspirated cars. The sound difference is preferable to the ultimate degree of performance for a car that size.

You realize this has nothing to do with the 6cyl DB7 from the op right?
