so after the tornado storms the other week my surround sound hasn't been working. I didn't exactly check it RIGHT before and after the storms so idk if that was even related and I don't think my place was hit by lightning, so idk for sure, just a guess.

Anyways, whenever I turn it on I hear some crazy feedback coming through all the speakers. The receiver is a denon, pretty old (my sister gave it to me, she had it when she was in college back in 92-96) but the polk audio speakers are ~newer, i bought them from crutchfields in 05. I can't get any sound to come through on my BluRay or cable, but when i switch the tuner over to radio I can hear the radio ok, but still getting the feedback as well. I can hear the feedback through all of the speakers (5) so i'm guessing this is a a broken receiver or are all my speakers busted? I really don't know much about audio electronics, but am kinda bummed about my sound system.

sounds like you might need to replace a capacitor or two

open that shit up and look around

sniff it a bit to try to find burned smelling things

if its the caps you'll have to order new ones, desolder and pop the new ones in

I replaced the capacitors and they work like a charm

Check all the connections. Mainly the audio in ones. Also check to see if there is adequate space between the audio wires and power wires. I only do car audio so I can't be of much help.

THAT would be the best thing you could do

I'll check it out and fix it if I can - $30 isn't a great rate but if you're willing to work with me we can take a crack at it

unless you live somewhere really convenient to me you're gonna have to bring the thing to me and I'll want to fix it at my house because that is where my soldering station is located

If its that old why not just buy a cheap replacement unit? Or is denon a top brand or something? I know nothing about in door receivers
