I was thinking of turbocharging an old BMW?

It sucks how you keep wanting the most fun to drive, comfortable, fastest cars you drive. So easy to step up, not so easy to step back down...

I would stick to something you could make money on. seems the highest chance for high margins are flashy items that people finance like a c6 z06, another porsche, maybe a lotus

Just get a fucking turbo and be done with it. Or grab an e46 and throw GCs, TCKs, or PSSXs on it.

What the hell is up with these threads. You're not gonna listen to anyone's advice. Just buy whatever the hell you want and go on about your business.

Who gives a shit.

Buy a tractor. Fuck it

I would totally do a turbo 240 - Volvo that is. I want to tune something to an inch of it's life, but it has to be RWD, manual transmission and reasonably light.

There's a half of a project I'm thinking about picking up. The car is mostly a junker e36 325i, but has a T4 Garrett on it for just shy of $3k, not so bad...

as an experiment of humility, you could drive an old camry or something similar

Although it is indeed pretty awesome, driving around an e36 M3 is as much humility as one needs at this point.

Time to give other people a lesson in humility and grab that Turbo.

As the ultimate insult to your sense of all that is proper, I volunteer to sell you my '03 Accord EX 4 cyl. On the plus side, it has leather interior, has a 5 speed, and only 2 doors.

On the downside, it's an Accord. It's FWD. It has 191,000 miles on it. And I have beaten the cowboy dog piss out of it.

I'll make you a fabulous deal on it.

FYI, I'm driving the Volvo 850 wagon I bought mom when she was around, so got that covered. It's a turbo that's chipped and running more boost (260ish hp prolly), but in a 3300+ lbs wagon with an auto, it's not fast...

That said, I'd rather drive a 25 year old $700 vw gti than an appliance snooze mobile, which I did as an only car for a bit a few months ago. You guys are acting like I only touch bugattis when I'm not being driven around in my bentley...

Maybe it's cause I think they're so cool, but I still think e36 M3s are sweet. I'd sit and admire them for a few minutes every now and then.

But... there's no reason to own one unless one was budget limited to $10k or so, there's some cool cars just above that price point.

i guess i'm with ahmet. I would feel sorry for someone driving a 2001 camry but a 1995 m3 i wouldn't feel sorry for the owner of. The car is perfectly capable and its fun. They also age very well so its probably not falling apart unless it was extremely poorly maintained. I may feel sorry for the car if the owner has modified it improperly (huge ricer wing chrome wheels etc).

If I could drive one to work and get away with it, I'd get a 1989 911 or a 993.

It is powerful.

It is light.

It is a PORSCHE.

No doubt that's super cool, but it's several levels of magnitude more than I can afford.

I am itching for something quick/fun though. As much as I like the Volvo wagon, I don't want to be driving it much longer. 3300 lbs + torque converter +fed is a bit much, I don't care how cool 5 cylinders, high pressure turbos and wagons are...

fuck a 2jz...if you're going to swap a motor into a car, the answer almost always should be LSx

Until you realize how much lower center of gravity is on a flat 6 and how 8200+ rpm is... nice.

Just sayin.

I love inline & flat sixes, and wouldn't advocate for putting an LSx into a 911...

I'm talking about doing an engine transplant to score a bunch more hp (and more reliability in some cases). There are only a few cases where it makes sense to use anything besides an LSx.

Ahmet,

Have you thought about the approach I've kicked around the idea of...abandoning any intention of multipurpose use, and just buying a sports racer (DSR, trackday special, etc) or Super Seven...then getting something practical and efficient as daily transportation?

For example, for sale outside of Charlotte...

http://www.racingjunk.com/category/89/Sports_Racer/post/2206217/Diasio-962.html

...or if you don't care about having a 2nd seat:
