went out for lunch just now. apparently a new stop sign was installed on the street near my work over the weekend - since i drive this area every day i didn't even notice it until I was already driving through it. as i approached i had noticed a woman on a walk with a young child and a puppy standing at that intersection ready to cross the road. I, of course, figured they would wait until I passed to cross. and, of course, they figured I would stop at a stop sign and let them cross first, and they were about to step into the road as I nearly sideswiped them /blog

i almost got in a wreck when i ran a stop light the other day. i saw one of those new signs that gives either an X or an arrow depending on whether the lane is open or not. i was talking to my passenger and not paying full attention to the road, and i thought the GREEN arrow meant i could go, so i barged my way into free-flowing traffic.

Similar thing happened to me last year. There is a road I used to take to work everyday that has long turn and the right side of the road (in the direction I was going) has trees through it so your viewing distance is not very long. This was not normally a problem until the day that they installed a red light at an intersection of this road and one that intersections it along the curve.

You couldn't see the red light until you turned and were about 20 feet from it, especially if you weren't used to one being there. Needless to say I couldn't stop for the light (the person behind me ran it as well haha). I think enough people complained because 2 days later they installed another light earlier in the curve that is tied to the main light so that you are aware of what state the intersection light is as you come around the corner.

This still confuses some people who try and stop at this new warning light since it is just a standard traffic light itself
