"Like" us on Facebook.

We will be partnering up with Pulse 102FM (102.3/102.5)

UPtown Cheapskate will be opening very soon in the Raleigh, NC area. The store will be located above Bada Wings in Mission Valley. Wednesday May 25th they will start buying back your name brand like-new clothes. Uptown Cheapskate offers gently worn brand name fashion at a fraction of the prices paid in malls, department stores and specialty boutiques.

Uptown Cheapskate provides a new way to shop. We stand behind the tag lines “buy sell exchange” and “our cash, your clothes …lets trade”. Our concept is quite simple. We buy and sell gently worn like new items at prices that everyone can get excited about. Free People, True Religion, Roxy, American Eagle and Steve Madden are some of the brand names that they’re looking for.
Uptown Cheapskate pays cash on the spot for the items that we’re able to sale and offers to donate any remaining items that you bring in. The core customers are male and female between the ages of 13-35. Someone with a great fashion sense but that may be unwilling to spend tons of money on brand name clothing.

Uptown Cheapskate is a second-hand store without the usual grunge and clutter, with clean lines and well-organized racks of clothes -- topped by a funky selection of shoes, bags and accessories. But as with any second-hand store, the adventure is seeing what treasures are buried among the other stuff.

wasn't there supposed to be a huge sports bar opening in that space at one point? And whatever happened to the Kroger?

the problem with that place is there is no running water or plumbing hookups.

I hate these kinds of stores, mostly because I have no sense of style so they don't want my old stuff. Also I'm not 16 anymore so I have no use for sleazy clothes.

in all seriousness though i'm very excited that something is finally going in that space so i can stop fielding questions about it. got to the point i was just making shit up because i got so sick of "the real reasons" of which i only had a vague idea to begin with

I always thought it would be a kick ass place for a gym...but the whole "no plumbing" thing ruined that

in slightly related news -- my friend who works for Sheetz corporate said they're looking in to buying the old Blockbuster and the Burger King and setting up a Sheetz there

Uptown is proabably a relative term. It's opening by the end of this week.

I really don't see the MV owners giving the green light on a gas station, though it would be nice and a pretty lucrative spot

How is uptown a relative term? If you consider Raleigh as a town, then geographically "uptown" would be north Raleigh. North Hills would be mid-town, and the city center with all the big buildings would be downtown (as it is already rightfully called).

lol, "uptown"

People seem to think "uptown" is somehow classier. My sister gets offended when people refer to downtown Charlotte as "downtown" rather than "uptown". I'm pretty sure it's still downtown though certainly correct me if I'm wrong.

Uptown was born of the fear that telling someone you were "going downtown" indicated an imminent act of oral sex.

This is common knowledge.

Quote :
"The term uptown often refers to a specific portion of a city in contrast with the local downtown area. The term is used mainly in the United States and Canada. The uptown neighborhood or neighborhoods, separated from the city's lower or central business district, may often be residential, sometimes with particularly upscale or fashionable connotation. Such uptown areas may not necessarily be located to the north of or at a higher elevation than the downtown, regardless of designation.

In addition, the name Uptown has multiple meanings:

Neighborhoods or regions in several cities
United States

Charlotte center city ("Uptown Charlotte"), North Carolina
"

Quote :
"Uptown/Downtown"There is much confusion brought about by the use of the terms "Uptown" and "Downtown" for Charlotte's center city area. These terms do not reference different areas of town and are thus interchangeable.

The history of the dual names is contested, yet prior to the mid-late 1980s, the term "Downtown" was used by residents, media and city leaders for the center city. During the 1980s, after the release of Uptown Girl by musician Billy Joel, first released in 1983, a massive campaign was launched to revamp the image of the downtown area and the term "Uptown" was introduced to the general public. On February 14, 1987 the Charlotte Observer began using the term "Uptown" as a way to promote a more positive upbeat image of the center city area.[3] School teachers were provided with "historical" documents justifying use of the term to teach to students.{Proclaimation designating central shopping and business district as Uptown Charlotte by City of Charlotte Mayor John M. Belk on September 23, 1974}

Though many feel that the term "Uptown Charlotte" is a new term in the last 10 years, local residents from three or more generations past will attest to having called the center city area Uptown their entire lives.[citation needed] This is due to the main intersection in the original center city, Trade St. & Tryon St., having been the point of highest elevation. When people would come from outlying areas to the city, they would say they were going 'up to town', a phrase that was eventually shortened to 'Uptown'.

The point of the post wasn't to discuss birth of the term "Uptown" but thank you for your Google detective work. We're all far more enlightened than before.

it is one thing to post an ad thread (you know...instead of just buying one). It is another to bump it when there has been next to no discussion on the store.

if people have clothes to sell and/or cheap, they will find it.

i don't have the tags on it or receipt and it was from an outlet. i'd rather drive to one of these kinds of places than drive an hour to an outlet.
