Quote :
"LONDON, March 2 (UPI) -- More intelligent children may be more likely to grow up to be liberals, a researcher at the London School of Economics and Political Science suggests.

Satoshi Kanazawa, an evolutionary psychologist, says "evolutionarily novel" preferences and values are those that humans are not biologically designed to have and our ancestors probably did not possess. In contrast, those that our ancestors had for millions of years are "evolutionarily familiar."

Kanazawa argues that humans are evolutionarily designed to be conservative, caring mostly about their family and friends, and being liberal -- caring about an indefinite number of genetically unrelated strangers one has never meet or interacted with -- is evolutionarily novel.

Data from the National Longitudinal Study of Adolescent Health support Kanazawa's hypothesis. Young adults who subjectively identify themselves as "very liberal" have an average IQ of 106 during adolescence while those who identify themselves as "very conservative" have an average IQ of 95 during adolescence, Kanazawa says.

what is childish about it?

I'm a leftist and I don't believe in, or support the idea of, any deity

does that make me a child?

I just dont get it why conservatives start to get so pissy whenever I bring up universal health care, or at least allowing the poor working class to qualify for health care.

So, you don't want the poor working class to have any health care?

Yet another thread by pryderi that belongs in TSB.

On another note, as it turns out, Neo is a conservative.

this just in, more youths are liberal! oh wait, that's not new at all . . .

being "atheist" at a young age would indicate a greater average intelligence purely for the fact that the concept of atheism is not a simple one (truly at least) compared with just accepting what your family tells you (90%+ not atheist) which is easier and simpler.

now as you advance with years this tid bit tends to iron itself out to some extent but since 90%+ of the population is not atheist, and it's a slightly more difficult concept to hold and maintain odds generally point again to a higher average intelligence as smarter people tend to be more willing to invest time and effort into being a minority belief system as a whole (even more so when the whole thing is optional)

You still tend to live longer more happy lives NOT being a atheist (on average compared to atheists) though. That fact alone makes it more worth while to believe in something over nothing. (at least for me, though I do have other reasons for it not to be divulged here)

Makes sense. I don't know too many smart Christian Conservatives. In fact, Christian Conservative is damn near an oxymoron.

eh?

I guess you think atheists must be bummed out and depressed all the time since they aren't the center of the universe like Christians are but really, we're fine.

this is all I could find, idk

well, maybe if we actually did things that made that possible, it'd be one thing. making health care more expensive for every one isn't one of those things that helps the poor.

conservative leaders like to lie about these things

sure the poor will spend more on healthcare following the implementation of reform, but that's like saying that I'll spend more on video games if I finally spring for the Wii after its price drops

the quality of their care will improve more than their expenditures will increase

eeeeeek. i hate statements like this.
i feel like is analogous to "english majors are mostly liberal", "people who listen to metal are probably devil worshipers", etc etc

i think this line of thinking is the A+, #1 reason that people with tattoos or piercings are not welcome in most professional places.
they are automatically not seen as fit for the job.

i mean i guess it's understandable why someone would think that,
but be careful before you are subconsciously hardwired to assume you are smarter than any god fearing republican, or that you need to be black to be a good basketball player, or a man to be an engineer.

generalizations are dangerous ground.

swing and a miss. you have more to worry about or think about, even a minuta of difference here over a lifetime can add up in a large population. there's much more to it that i'm frankly too lazy at 2 am to type or explain. but suffice it to say, you're much more narrow minded, (yourself and atheists as a group) than others. (note: not all others ofc, but then again I expect that to be the next thing to dribble out of your brain and fingers to wind up here on tww as your feeble "rebuttal")

The atheist has claimed "There is no God."

Doesn't that force an atheist to put everything they see and experience into a defined pattern of having an explainable reason? And if something happens that they can't explain, how does an atheist respond?

Yes. The only options are (1) being omniscient or (2) believing in the existence of a magical, mystical, omniscient sky-daddy.

There are no other choices.

"I can't explain what just happened. Now, I'll go investigate why that thing happened (after I get done hitting this bowl and beating off and finishing watching this episode of The Wire)," says the (this) atheist.

I suppose that I would classify myself as agnostic *, but I think I get more irked by evangelical atheists than I do by evangelical Christians. Self-righteous, holier-than-thou motherfuckers...the great majority of Southern Baptists that everyone loves to hate have nothing on these types.

* My personal belief is that there may or may not be a God, and if there is, various tenets held to by different religions and sects may or may not be right. I am not at all hostile to the notion of God; I just feel that trying to know and understand is an exercise in futility, so I live my life on the premise that I don't and can't know.
