"Bose" alone makes it not worth it

What would you recommend for an ipod dock?

My wife and I have one, and it is GREAT! The sound is really good, and it is extremely nice to have for the beach/tailgaiting/anything else you want music outside for. It was worth the extra $100, no question, to get the portable one. If something happened to ours, we would definitely buy another.

I have listened to several Bose Portables, and while they do have better sound quality than 99% of other *portable* ipod docks out there, that isnt saying much. Nice volume, clear mids, pretty much no bass (but hey, its only 2 2" speakers).

That being said, if you arent hooked on portable, the best ipod dock bar none for sound quality vs price out there is the Kicker iKick.

I've got one, and damn if it will slam. 40watt class-D amplifier and true seperate speakers. You can put in some party music (usually some sort of shitty rap) and turn it wide open with no distortion and surprising bass volume and kick.

thanks for the input! I ended up going with C-Net's Editor's Choice, Logitech's s715i :

^If you dont mind, how much did you end up getting that for? I use my Kicker inside my house, but when I go on mobile details I have a small Altec Lansing that I use. That one you picked out looks to be a little beefier with the speakers.

The logitech just arrived today. Sound is really very good for its size, surprisingly good bass. I hooked up both my ipod and xmradio to it.

I want something for taking my iPhone to the beach and playing music. Is that the best option for price/sand/water/sound etc?

I got the Harman Kardon Go + Play speakers about three years ago.

The sound is great, but everything else about it sucks.
