"Munson had been feeding bears for a decade, and was repeatedly warned by wildlife officials. After a bear got injured in a fight with an older and bigger bear, Munson left food out to help the injured bear. The older bear came back to Munson's property, forced its way past a wire fence, and mauled Munson. Later, wildlife officials killed two bears on Munson's property. One of the bears had a necropsy which revealed evidence that it consumed Munson.[14][15]

Its kinda funny that people here get all from a bear sighting, but in other places in the country its common. They know how to deal with them...

It amazes me how different places in this country are. And I'm not talking about big cities vs the boonies

My brother and I were chased by a wild boar on fouwheelers. I love my hometown.

I've nor had much experience with bears though.

I don't really think anyone is freaking out though ( not on this site at least can't say the same for garner heh)
It's just not common so it's kinda cool.

Kinda like the tornadoes maybe.
Chances are you'll be ok but you might wanna take precautions :p

"scary"? jesus christ.

those fuckers are harmless. they routinely got into my parents trash growing up in Asheville.

they present no danger unless you corner one with her cub.

There are no records of black bear attacks that are unprovoked. Leave the bear alone, it'll be okay. It's an adolescent, and they get kicked out after the first or second winter, so he(?)'s just looking for new territory. Also, black bears don't get very big, especially the females.
Part of the problem of the new territory search is the bear keeps running into people after find a place... I have a friend who lives out on the border of Apex and Cary, if I'm going to his house, there's a few mile expanse that looks like it's the middle of bumfuck nowhere, then suddenly, a huge fancy suburb appears.

Don't be surprised if officials aren't going to try to find the bear to tranq and relocate it, people are actually hoping -not- to see it, meaning it has moved on.

Bears aren't even a concern of mine while thru-hiking the AT (Appalachian Trail) in two years, much less around Raleigh/Greensboro. Humans are just ego-centric morons.
