I've been meaning to make this thread for a while and I forgot, but rbrthwrd's post in the saffron thread reminded me to. I'm not really interested in recipes, I was just wondering about your experiences with restaurants around the Triangle. What places have the most delicious seafood paella? Which places should I avoid? All I know is Red Room serves it but I have heard nothing about how delicious/awful it may be. 5/23/2011 12:22:48 AM |

Me too! I can eat seafood every day and not get sick of it (I worked at a seafood restaurant for 3 years and STILL love the stuff)
I grew up in New Jersey eating the most incredible paella at a cute, local Portuguese restaurant. I haven't had it since moving here. HELP, TWW! Do I need to move to another state? 5/23/2011 12:32:07 AM |

I haven't had it in the Triangle. I know there's an expensive italian place on Glenwood that has it for like 40 dollars, so, uh, dunno about going there.
Honestly you should just try making it. It'll be worth it, GURL. 5/23/2011 1:01:57 AM |

Figured out the restaurant on Glenwood that has it.
Tasca Brava has it, but it's pretty pricey (not even listed online, well, none of their prices are). The dish is a minimum of two people to order it. YOU SHOULD GO WITH YOUR BOO, egyeyes.
Their paella variant, which sounds great:
PAELLA VALENCIANA Calasparra rice and saffron from La Mancha serve as the base. You can include chorizo, pork, chicken, rabbit, scallops, shrimp, mussels, octopus, squid, fish, etc. Special requests welcome. (Min 2 persons) 5/23/2011 1:37:29 AM |

you're probably not going to find a really good one anywhere around here. its one of those dishes you can make every day and never master it. we make it for fun for shift meal at my restaurant, but it would take 30 minutes to serve to order. 7/17/2011 2:46:58 PM |

I worked at The Red Room (that place on Glennwood) a couple years ago and LOVED their paella. They make it to order so its really fresh but takes forever. The rice has a good crisp around the edges and the flavor is strong but not too spicy. It looks like they've expanded the selection even more since then. They used to have 1/2 price Paella and Sangria pitchers on Wednesdays, but I don't think they are doing that anymore...

@egyeyes, Irregardless usually has paella as a seasonal offering and I haven't seen in for over a year, so don't get your hopes up on that.
You should have gone to Tasca Brava so you could tell me if I should go there or not! 7/17/2011 4:54:04 PM |

I used to go to this Spanish restaurant that had five different types of paella on their menu. I miss that place
Don't ever make the mistake of getting paella at Bahama Breeze. It's not terrible but it's not worth wasting your money on. I've heard Carmen's Cuban Cafe in Morrisville has good paella but I have not had a chance to make it out there yet. 7/17/2011 5:08:06 PM |

Paella was in my dream last night... The dream was basically, I didn't want to eat Paella, but the restaurant had this weird menu for "Atheists". The owner was convinced that atheist was the word he wanted, I couldn't convince him otherwise. Apparently atheists are people that don't eat some kinds of food, so there was a textured picture of the food (in gray scale, for some reason) and a description of what it was so whoever wanted to make it seem like they were eating the food didn't have to eat it, they could just mime all of the actions... But yeah, the guy next to me was apparently trying to perfect the act of acting like he was eating paella.
TWW, why are you entering my dreams? And why paella, of all things? 7/20/2011 6:17:23 PM |
