I've gotten more interest from having an up to date LinkedIn profile than I have with any job websites. People will actively look for qualified people on LinkedIn vs. job sites.

On that note, I have gotten a couple job inquiries that were a bit below my pay grade from Monster.

I got a job offer as a result of an updated profile and a contact I had via a 3rd degree friend.

craigslist + linkedin (in other words traditional networking) have gotten me every job i've ever had

the only thing that the other job search websites have gotten me are constant emails and phone calls from recruiters

Craigslist is a good resource. You'll have to wade through a lot of worthless stuff, but many quality local companies will hire from there.

Ive found that a simple Google search of companies in the area by genre (ex. Raleigh finance jobs) and compile a list, then go to each company website to look for job openings. Takes a little bit more work but some companies wont actively seek out employees unless they are desperate and haven't received many qualified applicants.

I haven't really been on the job market for 4 years but...
So far two people have attempted to hire me via LinkedIn. Since both jobs were in DC I politely refused. This was after having a LinkedIn profile for two years.

Another source of potential employment I've found is talking to people in hotel bars while on business trips. Twice someones has offered to hire me. These someones were small business owners and for whatever reason I seem to connect well with strangers in hotel bars.

I would preferred simplyhired.com or indeed.com in searching the latest openings. Monster...not so much.

This has worked for me in the past, better when the economy didn't suck. I got my upcoming interview posting on a message board that has nothing to do with the job
