I have to go with Carrie. I found my "big" when I was a freshman. We had our off and on thing, and now we're getting hitched. I had my wild streak before then. I watched Sex and the City on DVD. So, like, several episodes at a time, and I must admit that Carrie’s little voice over with her column’s observations started to sound pretty meaningless pretty quick.

That said, when people hate the show with intensity, they’re revealing a lot about themselves. I mean, it was really the first show of its kind, and until then, single women of a certain age were portrayed as likable but still like some unusual, damaged side character--good for a joke about loneliness or promiscuity.

So we finally get our little show with single adult women, drinking cocktails and sharing their lives with one another, and people come out spitting: FUCKING VAPID, INSUFFERABLE SLUTS!

Can’t say I’m surprised…

We don't aspire to be these women. But the author wrote it based on single women everywhere. According to Candace Bushnell, we all have a bit of all four women inside ourselves. A lot of women love the show because we can relate in some way.
