Breaking news concerning not having friends:

I am pretty cutthroat and ruthless in general in life.

I am also very unwilling to talk to people.

These are the downsides.

The upside is that I have a lot of money comparatively speaking for my age bracket. This I am proud of.
I am even more proud of the fact that I got the highest grade in my first accounting class so far (exam high) and am on schedule for my MBA in Accounting pretty soon....

the downside is that I have two tickets to a comedy show at the Hard Rock and nobody to go with

Because I have no friends because they are all my competition and there's also the part about hating everyone

any time I smile and talk to people and make friends I feel I am wasting time

Thanks for being my therapist Tdub. If I had friends I wouldn't have you.

Love,
Me

I'm willing to talk to people but I quickly run out of things to talk about unless I already know them somewhat. I'm bad at BSing. Is this what you meant?

You forgot about the downside of not getting any cutty, and abusively masturbating yourself into oblivion.

You should pick up a waiter job for the hell of it. It'll teach you to BS with strangers with confidence, while forcing you into social situations with potentially cute girls that have low self esteem and no ambitions

Wasting your time or theirs?
If you think it's wasting your time to smile at people you need to realize you're probably wrong, and you're putting yourself up to a friendless life, and need to cheer up some.
If you think that you smiling at people is wasting your time, then you're a dick and need to find new people to talk to that actually don't mind listening.

Lighten up.

you make it seem like you don't have friends b/c you don't want any, but from the limited info provided you seem sorta douchey, so its probably that people just don't wanna be friends with you.

An MBA with an accounting concentration is the way to go if you have an accounting undergrad. You will still qualify for the CPA and a MBA may open more doors than a MACC.

I used to share your mindset. Money was all that mattered. Then I realized that while money can't buy happiness, it can buy freedom, which to me, is happiness.

^ dude

that speaks to me, and I thank you for that - the happiness factor is missing because the freedom isn't there

you're not free if you're in a living hell of school every day and getting shit on in a rut with dumbass classmates fucking up the class and endless schedules working on problem sets that don't stop for 8 hrs

I literally got started on a problem at noon and didn't finish until 1 AM.

Fuck this shit. I guess if I don't feel the lack of friends part is my fault then I am ok with that. I just have been feeling like a loser for being so....monastic

thanks tdub - on the good news factor - you have me more to yourself, and no I am not an alias

For some, having baller-ass monies, and material items, such as HDTVs, foosball tables, or whatever are useless unless you have someone to come over to see it and use it with you. I don't feel like money is everything, its alright as I long as I feel like I don't have to make friends just so I can have helping-hand on ice if I ever need one. I like people a lot, but I'm not necessarily into making friends beyond the work buddy.

For every five car salesmen talking about synergy, there is one analytical scientist.

Don't forget it's supply and demand - interaction with you should always be at premium. The boss has to want to talk to you otherwise you're a ball licker (or vag - no sexism here).

I'm not sure exactly what you said, but I think it's the opposite. People aren't going to go out of their way to interact with you unless you seem friendly. You won't get hired if you seem like you can't or don't want to talk to people, so you'd never have the chance to play hard-to-get with the boss.

Hating people in general is actually a valuable trait for a salesman. It constantly gives you incentive to want to fuck them over, which should be every good salesman's goal.

so in your mind there are only car salesmen and scientists?

also - supply and demand doesn't work for social interaction because it is not a limited resource

People have already said it, but interpersonal skills are critical no matter what path you take. You can deceive yourself into thinking otherwise, but reality tells a different story: the happiest, most successful people are the ones that know how to network. Learn it, or live a life of mediocrity.

Long story short - I came off a 5 and a half year stint where every single day was licking balls and being a fucking bitch for my superiors. It would involve phone calls whenever, complete and absolute answers to everything. I would also get passed off to people.
There came a point where I had five bosses and then one would hate me but the other would love me and then they would pass me off but nobody ever would officially announce that they were no longer my boss.
I was so busy kissing ass and making friends and being whatever they needed that I lost who I was to some extent.
Now I am in the reactionary phase who knows...I don't mean to post too much in my own thread, but you know, if you go with the cliche of being Mr. Smiley and always taking one for the team for your job you will end up eventually hating people.....there is a limitation to putting on pretenses...where do you draw the line of just being over the bullshit yet still needing that dollar and the friends?

It's not about sucking up. You can get respect if you're perceived as someone that deserves respect. There's a balance between doing your job and standing up for yourself. As soon as it becomes evident that you're being "nice" to get ahead and that you're willing to take abuse, you become the whipping boy.

kissing ass is NOT the same as making friends
bullshitting is not the same as being personable

I am very personable and have loads of friends
I can make friends with almost anybody - and in my current job that is the primary task
but I don't let people take advantage of me - its okay to show a little back bone

since you seem to be partially autistic here is what it takes to create a relationship (no matter how superficial or temporary) with another person:

1. Smile and make eye contact. This shows that you are open and willing to engage with others.
2. Make a positive comment on something the other person is doing or wearing. Don't come on too strong or people will think you're creepy or disingenuous.
3. Small talk. Ask questions about their life. Most people just want to talk about themselves. When listening maintain eye contact and reinforce the impression that you are listening by nodding and occasionally making reaction sounds.
4. Find some way to connect your life with theirs or an interest of theirs and then call back to a question, allowing them to speak more. Ex. They are from Chicago? Oh, I'm from Wisconsin. Know where I can get a good brat around here? - They enjoy backpacking? Oh, I'm planning a trip. What's your favorite place to hike?

Helpful things to know:
Geography.
Dog breeds.
Sports.
Current events.

Things to avoid:
Politics.
Religion.
