Go to the Control Panel (by hitting Windows key + X) and then to Mouse and then click the Elan tab and then click Options. While in Options all I did was clicked Set all to Default (I don't know if you have to click this) and then Apply.

For some reason google Chrome is slightly blurry on my laptop (but looks fine on my tablet). I'm guessing its a monitor driver issue, because I have checked the Clear Type settings.

FIXED:
navigate to the chrome.exe in your program files -> right click -> compatibility -> disable scaling on high DPI settings

Try fiddling with this from within Chrome instead: chrome://flags/#high-dpi-support

This is when I upgraded to Windows 8.1: https://encyclopediadramatica.es/Last_Thursday

It went surprisingly well; the hardest part was waiting for it to download and do the compatibility checks.

actually, all of my fonts are screwed up since the upgrade

i fixed the DPI thing with chrome, but things like window/tab fonts are large while some text is normal

if i change the setting to small (i only have small and large options in text size), it's too small...what is this BS?

uh... wat?

^go into your scaling and ClearType settings and check all of the settings. It might be set to 125% by default or something.

^looked back and noticed you went back to 8 to upgrade to 8.1 from the preview. You could have upgraded straight from the preview to 8.1. It just reinstalled your metro apps. You needed to go to ms-windows-store:WindowsUpgrade from IE. I know this was probably late, but just in case anyone else out there is thinking about doing the update.

A lot of people, me included, were having problems with that not working like it was supposed to. Despite following all directions and installing all updates, the Windows 8.1 upgrade would not show up in the store to upgrade and microsoft's help page just redirected you to the store. I don't keep any files saved local-only so it was trivial for me to do a refresh and then upgrade.

Gotcha. I'm doing a system image of my Envy X2 because it has to go back to HP to get the shitty WiFi antenna on it fixed. It is pretty difficult to find the system image settings compared to Windows 7. You have to do a search for File History and go into the non-metro link then click the link at the bottom left for making a System Image Backup. I guess they are looking to make images a thing of the past with file history and SkyDrive integration. Weird. Oh well, still enjoying Windows 8.1. Hopefully HP fixes my shit.

My Lenovo Thinkpad Tablet 2 has been sitting in my bag on standby for a week without being used. I pulled it out, tapped the button and it was immediately on and still had 30% battery remaining. I love this thing.

Bought the Dell Venue 8 Pro last week for $250. Now on sale at Coscto for $229.

So far its pretty much the tits. Can't believe I am able to run full windows, all day, in an ipad mini form factor, with basically zero compromises for $250.

The ONLY downside to it so far is there is only a single usb port, meaning you can't dock it and charge it at the same time. Waiting for my Miracast reciever to arrive to see how well Miracast works (since that's my primary reason for even using the usb port in the first place). Bluetooth onboard means I don't necessarily need anything to use a keyboard/mouse with it (although BT kb/mice tend to suck terribly).

Other than the shitty resolution it seems like a good deal. Although Costco says it's $329 on their website. Guess it changed?

-nvm the member price is $229. I see it now.

I went for the "HI762 wifi" dongle. You can find it on newegg, but I bought it from ebay for considerably less (and available for even less than that on several of the china-dropshipper sites).

It's powered by this rockwill chipset http://minipute.com/2013/07/18/10-rockchip-miracast-dongle-contains-rk2928-soc-cpu/2328

Which is about 1/4 the cost of other options. I might also try out the Netgear Push to TV adapters available from Newegg and Microsoftstore.com (much cheaper), but Netgear seems to be having mountains of firmware problems currently.

They should come in sometime late next week (early December) and I'm going to put them through the paces with a variety of Miracast devices. Will report back

Gotcha. My co-worker likes his. Funny because they're actually known for being under priced compared to other similarly spec'd ultrabooks. e.g. you can get a Yoga 2 Pro with an i5 and 3200 by 1800 display for like $950. The i7 version with 8GB of ram and a 256GB ssd can be found for $1199.

-The twist looks cool but I refuse to buy a laptop with under a 1080p screen considering almost all new phones and tablets have at least a 1080p screen.

Eh it's $200 more and only the 1080p screen compared to the 3200 by 1800 on the Lenovo. Neither are shipping for at least 4 weeks anyway.

^^ i didn't realize they increased the screen specs with the new yoga, I thought it was 1080p. That is a pretty tempting choice.

Yeah other than all the scaling issues with non-standard applications. My only concern is getting it then not being able to run any of the programs I need to without bumping the resolution way down.

got dat 190% venue 8 pro! there was a $20 off deal and tigerdirect was / is selling them for $229.00 so I got it for $209.00 out the door (along with a free 24 pk of AAA duracell batteries)! Overall, I'm really impressed with the performance. Haven't ordered the case / stand or stylus yet, but that's definitely my next move.

You're going to use up those AAA batteries really quickly running Windows 8. It's still cool that you got them free though.

Does anyone have use two live accounts, any issues? We are moving to using Skydrive and Office 365 at work and I'm curious if I should expect any issues logging in on my personal computer as a second user. (I'm assuming it works fine, just curious if anyone else does it)

^If you're company is moving to O365, you shouldnt have any problems. They will use orgid for O365 (aka yourname@company.com), and you can login with both orgid and microsoft account at the same time.

Where you see your liveid in the top right corner, it will show your company account AND whatever Microsoft account (personal) you've linked with the computer (for windows8/8.1). And you can hit the switch account button in the profile dropdown to use different credentials at any time.

It's a little weird, but in practice everything works pretty invisibly.

Had it for almost a week now! I love it. I think for the price and specs it's one of the best options out there. Can't beat a 3200 by 1800 screen, i7, 8gb ram, and 256 SSD for $1199. Not to mention the various positions you can use it in. The trackpad and keyboard are probably the best I've used on an ultrabook as well.

Does anyone know why I can't see local files in Metro Apps? For example, if I try to attach a local file when I select "This PC" it just says "There are no files or folders in this view" and I can't go up or anything to find files. The only way I can find files is to chose "Homegroup" and navigate to my computer, its pretty annoying.

I'd probably be interested in that deal if I had a way to get one of these for $99.

I may have a friend in Charlotte willing to go as long as they don't have to wait in a line. I'm assuming there is a 1 per person limit, but if not I'll have them buy a few.

OK, let me know. If you have to buy the tablet for 200, I knock 100 off the cash if you show me the receipt.

Oh an included with the deal is a pretty much a brand new messenger bag case for it - only used it once.
