I have to take a car to an exhaust shop, and to get inspected etc.
I know that nc makes you inspect car before you can register it now. How about 30 day tags? will that allow me to get my shit done while driving it around so I don't have to waste the time and effort trailoring it everywhere?
any other suggested routes that are legal?
thanks 6/3/2011 11:09:04 AM |

I think you can register it and get a plate, but you have 30 days to get it inspected or they'll send you a fine or something. Best to call the DMV or check their website. 6/3/2011 11:12:23 AM |

I remember the 1st reply being the case. But I have heard that you need inspection before even registering. If this is true. this sucks. If it isn't that is awesome and I will be able to get it inspected within the 30 days.
I will call later today thanks for the hel 6/3/2011 11:24:27 AM |

the DMV gives out 3-Day trip permits for getting cars inspected. it's like a registration card you can put in your glovebox. they do NOT give you a plate. the last 2 used cars I bought required inspection so they just gave me that trip permit. it felt pretty weird driving around town without a plate but i think legally as long as you're not breaking any traffic laws, cops can't give you shit about it. 6/3/2011 11:25:43 AM |

Wait, that's only for a vehicle that's getting new tags. I assume that's what the OP meant. Otherwise you just have to get it inspected again after the exhaust fix if you already have owned it. Then you can pay/get your registration immediamtely after the inspection. Also, if it the vehicle is bought from out of state but being titled in NC you don't need an inspection the first year.
