I placed an order for a motherboard for an XPS 700 on May 27th. I got multiple emails saying the estimated delivery date was delayed, and today they cancelled the order and placed another identical order, now with an estimated delivery date of June 16th. I spoke with someone slightly higher up than a salesperson and they told me they can't comment on whats in stock, it depends on the MB manufacturer, etc

Are they completely full of shit? Am I going to end up cancelling the order when it gets delayed again? Is this common of Dell for parts that they don't manufacture?

I've always sourced power supplies and other dell parts that have weird sizes or weird screw placements (so you have to buy theirs) from eBay.

I had a similar issue with a laptop about 6 years ago. I was having mother board issues and had to send it in twice. One of those times, I was delayed 2 weeks. The third time the laptop crapped the motherboard, I demanded it be considered a lemon. About a year (I think 13 months) had passed from original purchase date, but considering I was having issues every 4 months, Dell honored my request. I got a newer refurbished model. It lasted about 2 years, but then the mother board started crapping out on it too. Fortunately, I sold it on craigslist for cheap before it totally destroyed itself.

Won't buy another Dell. Maybe they've changed/improved since, however, ASUS has won my business.

after multiple calls to Dell this week acting very displeased with their service, I looked today and saw that they had shipped it overnight yesterday and that it was scheduled to arrive today before 3pm

then I tracked the package on FedEx's site and got a delivery exception (nobody home/business closed)...because those fuckers shipped it to the wrong address

luckily it was to an address i have access to so i should be able to pickup from the FedEx facility after 4pm today but god damn they are inefficient

about the XPS 700:

sounds like you should pick up a different board. I always like to get a price from Fry's or Microcenter (found them in Atlanta) and have the local Best Buy match prices.

supposedly this particular motherboard is hard to find...i asked my hardware supplier in Florida who usually has all types of MBs and power supplies and he didn't have it...but I wanted the same MB if possible in order to simplify reconfiguring the RAID, etc
