For setting up a field office in a metal warehouse at a project site, I need to find something for internet access.
The Verizon mifi card did not get reception inside the building (reception outside was okay, not good though). I may need to use something with an external antenna that I can mount outside of the building.
I am going to contact Clear and maybe try another Verizon device, but is there anything else I should be looking at? Anyone know of any companies that offer external antennas for stuff like this? 6/8/2011 1:35:43 PM |

call your lawyer ASAP and your insurance after that. whatever you do, don't sign anything from their insurance company. 6/8/2011 2:03:01 PM |

i just got off the phone with them, they weren't sure if anyone offered building-mounted antennas or had a solution that could get reception in a metal building 6/8/2011 2:06:50 PM |

one of the cell phone options may work, it may just be that what i tried was not strong enough. I'm going to try a few of them, but its kind of a pain to get a sample unit to try at the site before i purchase.
does anyone know if there are any companies that offer solutions like this? i either need something stronger or, more likely, some type of a solution that involves an external antenna mounted outside. 6/8/2011 2:20:52 PM |

If you can get good signal on your mifi outdoors just leave the mifi outdoors and repeat the wifi signal. It's crude, but it works - I've done it before plugging the mifi up to my car phone charger and using a DD-WRT repeater inside a stone building.
What distance are we talking?
