Provision Company at Southport is cool and on the water. Good food and atmosphere.

[Edited on June 8, 2011 at 3:01 PM. Reason : not a ton of seafood options but still cool]

I've only ever eaten at "Little Bits" on Oak island and it was for breakfast. It was just a typical diner/grill type breakfast but was pretty good.

I've heard people suggest Shagger Jack's on Oak Island before for seafood

Dead End Saloon is legit, but its more of a bar food type place, (with Seafood).

Next question: bars on/very close to the beach after our meal? something that stays open late and outdoor seating

Fishy Fishy is pretty damn good. So is Live Oak Cafe in town (though it is also somewhat expensive).
