As an avid new posters right's activist, I too have said that there was a problem with new users being hounded upon. However, I've noticed lately that new users haven't quite had any backlash like there used to be. I can't definitively say anything about new female users, but at the very least there have been no creepy attn: threads.

There was even a thread created in Sports Talk by a female poster that didn't have very much sexism in it, I was surprised.

1.) sign up for tdub
2.) lurk and learn the basics, etiquette, and overall tone before posting
3.) take everything with a grain of salt and develop a thick skin*. That goes for life in general - no one likes a butthurt whiner. No one.
4.) develop a strategy for when someone says something to you that you don't like - either ignore it, respond in a concise manner and move on . . or . . fuck it, just move on. If it's something you feel cannot be ignored, you consider legitimate harassment, or just makes you uncomfortable then PM a mod or decide if you really want to stay on the site. I'm not saying it's right, but not everyone is going to welcome people with open arms, rainbows, and kittens. It would be nice if they did, but they don't. So why scream and cry and throw a tantrum when you can ignore the douches and go about your merry way?
