I really wish this was posted before I drove that way. Epic fail. Expired registration and no inspection ticket. Can't get my Registration until inspection and I have to get the waiver saying I've spent 250 bucks to get my engine light off which will never go off. Wonder what you guys think I should do? Oh yeah and the topper? He made me walk home. I can get my car whenever he isn't there. WTF. Someone post when they are gone please.

^ ^ shit I had something kinda like that happen once and I thought I got fucked by a mando clerk of court appearance even though all fees were waived (no online option), so it cost me nothing but my mandatory time (it was weird but free, not even court fees), and my time is arguably more valuable than this bullshit

secondly, I once got a city ordnance violation for running a stopsign rather than the traffic violation flavor of running stopsign penalty. The difference is the fine is the same but there is no allotment of points for the violation in the case of the city ordnance

I know this is /words, but I thought I'd share with you how fucked up and inconsistent they can be depending on how they feel.

so it's not that you physically can't.....

it's just that he'll be able to make an arrest at that point if he sees you trying....

Best response: Officer, are you implying that I should break the law when not in your presence?

His response: No. Thank you citizen, carry on. Here's the number to the now disabled and abandoned vehicle we are now impounding.

At least he didnt impound your car. Seriously just call a tow-truck and get it towed back before you head out there and find your car gone. if he made you walk home it like isnt far from your place and thus the towing charge shouldnt be more than like $50 for most places

Just go and drive it tomorrow. Or even an hour from now.

he wont sit there all night and wait to give you another ticket. cops are lazy.

you'll be fine.

lol @ poor skaterjaws, really does seem like a dick of a cop to do that. Also, don't you have to drive the car some place to get it inspected to get the registration? seems like a catch 22 if you ask me. I mean honestly, whose going to actually tow their vehicle to an inspection place to get a car legal for the road?

explain how they are not.

where is the reasonable suspicion that leads to the probable cause; or the probable cause on its own?

in order to drive a car in NC you have to have current registration. there is now way around it. everyone has to play by the rules on that one.

driving is a privilege, not a right.

that's all i got. be responsible and this shit doesn't happen.

^^what is your point about registration? so cops can just pull you over "just to check"? nevermind that they can just run a plate. even with stickers, cops couldn't pull you over "just to check".

driving is a privilege; you are correct there.
however, your constitutional right to privacy is still a right, no matter if you are partaking in privilege.

^the checkpoint is the unlawful search. police can't just stop anyone and ask for papers. no matter what.

hahahaha

it's not an unreasonable search to see your registration is expired.

all they have to do is look at your license plate.

which is a whole lot different than stopping you with no reason at all, demanding your papers, and doing a casual visual/smell search of your car (ask any police officer, when they're around your car, they're searching, it's the damn point of a checkpoint).

here's an idea:

don't drive drunk.
don't drive around with weed in the front seat.
don't have crack pipes in your car.

these are just some tips to keep your ass out of jail.

here's an idea:

many cops don't even know the laws they enforce.
the constitution is still valid in this country.
the "just don't break any laws" defense is unsupported.

$100 bucks says I can drive around with my pistol (open and/or concealed) and I'll find at least a handful of cops in wake county who think I'm breaking the law.

Tea Party

Real world example of what exactly happens whenever some bullshit goes down

Quote :
"His mad-cap, all-day, all-night journey began early in the morning in Lake City, Fla., with plans to come up the New Jersey Turnpike, cross into Staten Island and Brooklyn before reaching Shewey’s apartment in Sunnyside, Queens.

But the lifelong, small-town Florida man got lost and crossed into Manhattan through the Holland Tunnel. Then his final mistake was turning right on a red light at East 65th Street, into southbound Park Avenue at 11:55 p.m., drawing the attention of cops, who found the gun.

Ryan said he hopes to visit the Big Apple again.

"I'm not bitter, it's all good. No bitterness. I have no bitterness at all," he said. "New York is a great city. I look forward to visiting under better circumstances."

Basically dude was acquitted, etc. etc. but bottom line is it cost him 65 grand. You can always win or fight anything, but you're never guaranteed it won't cost you an excessive amount of money.

I'm pretty sure if you take it to autozone and get a free engine light check, they will reset it. Not sure its enough to get you through an inspection but worth a try

they will reset it. hell you can reset it yourself by simply unhooking the battery.

however, the vehicle will not pass inspection if the codes have been reset in less than a certain number of miles. the light is likely to come back on in that number of miles. if it happens to not come on, you're golden.

1 -- Autozone does not reset it anymore. They used to, but not now. Trust me, I just went through this. But you can unhook the battery.

2 -- The rest of what NRR said is correct. Resetting it can work but probably won't, because you have to drive it around long enough and under the right conditions to set all of the readiness flags (a pain in the ass as it is), by which point the light will probably come back on.
