I was supposed to take off at 6:50 pm. it's 2:27 am and we're just now flying over reading pa. there's no way they couldn't predict what the true delay was. bumping it 30 min every 20 min was absolute horse shit.

Make sure you document the flight number / time / date / location and make the complaint. The DOT will fine the company.

^ ^ yeah, every time the regulatory agency does something to try to help the public the big company always finds a technical way to sidestep the penalty by redistributing the delays to a new category to bypass any violations...fucked up

Delta does suck and unfortunately I am flying them soon.......

but one time I did let a random person cut in front of me when boarding at the possiblity that the overhead bins would fill up (the new rush for the airlines) because she had a lot of shit with her

Turns out she was an off duty stewardess and got me upgraded to 1st class for free for being so cool about letting her in line as she was flying standby

[Edited on June 18, 2011 at 2:41 AM. Reason : she worked for Delta, and I attribute it more to her than the company so it doesn't make up for them]

here is the story of my last flight on delta:

sit on tarmac for an hour
brought plane back to gate because as the captain said, we needed to "drop off some paperwork"
wait at gate
go back out on tarmac for another hour
bring plane back TO REPLACE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER
wait at gate
let people voluntarily get off plane to get lunch, saying plane ready in 2 hours
change flight to new gate 15 minutes later while loling at people who left to eat

PROFIT

Well she was unabashedly trying to cut in line and like 7-8 people ahead of me (lined up at the gate) were all like "Fuck no! you can't get in front of me" and I felt bad so I was like, "Hey just go ahead."

Also

I did want to hit it even though the first thing I noticed after her tits was her massive wedding band.

^^ wouldn't you rather have the airline be incredibly cautious over instruments? Everyone knows the fleets of every major airline are aging incredibly. Avg production date was ~mid 70s. We continually trust our lives to aircraft in service longer than we've been alive! Have a safe flight!

You really should shut up and hope that old ass plane doesn't crash. You know the airline industry is over due for a few crashes. Its been a while.

That's why you never get a flight late in the day if you can. At least you have wi-fi.

Before buying a ticket I always check http://flightaware.com/ for that flight's history. It only goes two months back, but that's still a decent set of data to work with when trying to see how often that flight has been delayed.

It would be harder to justify another bailout if the airport terminals are empty. It just seems like the industry as a whole has given up on customer service in the face of increasing government regulation.

I feel like air travel as a whole has been highly subsidized by both parties, as we have been propping up the industry pretty much since the beginning.

Not to get into this argument, but the industry used to be regulated - and it worked. Then they deregulated it, and it became a giant race to the bottom. Subsequent bankruptcy proceedings of the ones that failed in a capitalist market allowed them to continue operating, dragging the rest of them into the ground. Take a look at the legacy carriers and find which ones have never declared bankruptcy. A few have done so more than once.

I'm all for free market, but you have to let the businesses that fail actually fail.

Also, gas prices aren't helping anybody.

The first flight I took with Delta got delayed to the point where they just sent us home (luckily I was in RDU). This was a year almost a year and change ago and my flight was supposed to leave at something like 8:50 with a storm in Atlanta.

The 12+ times I've boarded a Delta plane since then, my longest delay was an hour and that was only once.

Knock on wood, I haven't had a ton of issues.

[Edited on June 18, 2011 at 12:12 PM. Reason : I fly Delta again next week, then American the week after, then Southwest early August.]

I've had the worst luck with US Airways. It seems like every flight I flew with them was delayed. One time, we even got struck by lightning.

US Air decided that the RDU-CLT leg of my girlfriend's flight to Texas yesterday should take place in a van arriving 5 hours late.

Never booking US Van again.

I've always had good luck with US Air, but generally my flights are either out of or into Charlotte, and CLT is the main hub for US Air, so I'd expect them to have their shit together at their main airport

Just wanted to point out that virtually everywhere you fly on a hub and spoke airline is going to be just that: from the hub or to the hub. US Air also has hubs in Philadelphia and Phoenix, and regional affiliates with hubs in LGA and DCA. Unless you're flying Southwest, who isn't hub and spoke, the chances are you're going to/from a hub, with few exceptions. Hub is not = having shit together. Usually, quite the opposite.

Also, some of you people need to learn about controllable completion factor. Can't be flying through massive thunderstorms, tornadoes, and hail. So choose which delays to bitch over wisely. With that said, airlines' operations are terrible and a joke. Especially in the hubs.

Out of curiosity, is anyone actually brand loyal on this shit? I thought people find the cheapest fare and book accordingly. Unless the differences between the fares are negligible, I don't see most of you "choosing" airlines. Amiwrong?

For students, you may be right.

The rest of us can afford to be a little picky, we use airline miles, and it absolutely is worth it to go through airlines that don't route through cluterfuck airports. Saving time is definitely worth money for me.

I'm pretty brand loyal to Delta, but less because I love Delta and more because I take the same flight routinely and it's always at a good time for me.

Generally if it's just me flying, I take Delta. If it's the girlfriend and I, we fly Southwest because of the free bags and the fact that I can't convince myself to actually get the Delta credit card and I generally come up a few mileage segments short of silver status.

I'm also currently brand loyal to Hyatt hotels, but I may switch that up at some point.

Quote :

Exactly. My girlfriend is getting her PhD at Michigan State right now, so she tries to fly down here for as cheap as possible, which generally means she takes a flight from Detroit to Raleigh. But before she can even get on that flight, she has to sit on a bus from Lansing to Detroit for an hour and a half, to get to the airport 1.5/2 hours early (though it's generally even earlier than that since the bus times suck) and then eventually make it here. The last time she came down, there was a stopover in LGA, so the entire process took her about 10 hours.

By contrast I pay like $75 more and get to RDU like an hour and a half before my flight, have a 35 minute layover from Detroit to Lansing, and land with the whole thing taking something like 4 hours.

Yeah, I guess I overlooked the whole miles deal, which is huge.

Quote :

Haha can you give me an example? LGA, JFK, ATL, PHL, DCA, IAD, CLT, MIA, ORD, DTW, MSP, DFW, DEN, LAX, PHX, SFO can all be clusterfucks on any given day. I guess some of those more so than others, but once you factor in weather and flow, they all can be pretty terrible.

^lol, I used to fly the DTW.LAN flight.

^I mean when you go buy a ticket, pick the fastest route that doesn't go through a bad airport.
