I have one of these (4gb version) and it's awesome. Tiny, fast, tough, waterproof, solid metal

Here's mine

all the brand name ones are pretty much the same price, unless they come with something special (bundled software, metal body, rubberized grip, etc).

and they are so cheap these days that there is no need to shop around for price. shop around for looks/functionality/size.

transcend
sandisk
sony
samsung
lg
toshiba
kingston

they all make good ones.

16 gb can be had these days for under $30.

32 gb and 64 gb exist, but they are stil pricey. max is 256 gb, for about a grand.

You can get a 32 GB for $50-$60 on sale. The 64 GB are still pretty pricey.

just checked, 16 gb can be had for 20-25 for brand name ones.

^ yeah 32 gb is not bad, but 64 gb is too much.

Here's a 32GB i found on newegg for $35

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820313090&cm_re=32gb_flash_drive-_-20-313-090-_-Product

and a 64GB I saw on tigerdirect for $90

those are the cheapest I've found so far. I do agree 64GB might be a bit much, but at the same time in a couple years it'll be just right and maybe I can save a little time and money springing for it now

Yeah, they're pretty cheap these days. Back in the day I ended up with so many 1GB flash drives that you would have thought that they were free at one point.

I don't know that I'd waste too much time stressing about getting the best deal. The things are fairly ubiquitous these days, so the price at one location is going to be really close to the price at every location.

Try newegg. It's not hard to find 8GB for $15 and 16GB for $30.

Edit: ^I don't think you'd save time and money by future proofing out to a $90 64GB drive. Chances are by the time people need a 64GB falsh drive they'll be $20. So buy a 32 now for $30, and buy a 64 then for $30 and save money.

Another edit: Also you'd come out cheaper getting two 32GB drives. It would really only bite you if you needed to store that 40GB virtual machine or something... or maybe you aren't like me and you actually get annoyed by having 5 or 6 flash drives floating around the house.
