I have a Buffalo WHR-HP-GN and my connection is slow... about 30 times slow as compared to connecting directly to my router (wireless & LAN). It has DD-WRT, though I don't know anything about that.

Any suggetions? Should be getting ~15MB/s but I'm getting ~0.5MB/s when going through this router.

Thanks for the help.

I figured it should still work like any other router - plug in, set up the security, then go. Never have I had to mess with other settings.

DD-WRT is extremely reliable. I'd lean toward that is not your problem unless you're using an early build for that model.

First - are you experiencing the problem only on wifi? From multiple devices/computers? Or any connection passing through the dd-wrt device is experiencing the slowdown?

Second - have you soft reset the box, and if that didn't work hard reset?

both wireless and wired are slow

checked ethernet cables via connecting directly to modem and speed was correct

tried on 2 computers and 1 mobile device

i've done a few hard resets (well, unplugging for a while).

I'll have to check on the firmware when i get back home.

soft reset on most dd-wrt routers is holding the "reset" pin hole in the back for 1-2 seconds. It wipes everything except your settings.

hard reset is usually hold the pin hole for 10-30 seconds depending on model. Usually it will appear to be working then the lights will start blinking crazy as it wipes to defaults. Reset your SSID and security settings, run the tests again.

updated firmware
set to default

and nothing

how would i tell if it's being firewalled?

holy crap I love Buffalo Tech's tech support. 2 minute phone call, no bullshitting, no wasting my time, new router being sent to me.

if a hard reset and update didn't fix it you've probably got hardware failure.

How old is it?

finally got a new one from buffalo.

this one was working fine for about an hour then it did the same thing; however, a hard reset has seemed to solve the problem.

what would cause the speed to drop so sharply? I had WPA2 Personal TKIP, MAC filter on, and disabled SSID broadcast (I know, I know). However, speeds were slow for both wired & wireless (and when both connected at the same time)

ok, happened again. did a hard reset, back to normal. I haven't changed any settings (other than the router name/pw since it requires that to access the router). pure stock and the speeds (wireless/wired) just degrade over time...

connecting directly to modem shows consistent speeds
tried various ethernet cables
not a computer issue, as it happens on both of my notebooks

What are the CPU load averages on the router when your internet is slow? The GUI should show it in the top right corner.

I never looked. However, I switched to the dumb version of the firmware (non dd-wrt) and it's been working great ever since.

never had any luck with dd-wrt. might want to see if tomato supports your router.

Do you have cable internet? If so, do you have a trap on your line (i.e. you have just internet or a limited cable package)?

In my old apartment, I once had a problem with intermittent slow downs and disconnects. Turned out the trap went bad and TWC replaced it.

^wasn't a TWC problem, amazingly. I was hard wired to the modem for 2 weeks and didn't have any issues.

Changing to the 'friendly' firmware has seemed to fix things.... at least for now. I don't really need anything more advanced than basic firmware/security anyways.

Have you tried changing the channel? dd-wrt will show you a couple of different views of the other wireless networks in your area
