Peritoneal or hemodialysis. Apparently the need is looming on my not-so-distant horizon. Also, Duke or UNC (I know, I know...*sigh*) for a transplant?

Isn't Duke where they had a bunch of transplant patients die a few years back because they washed surgical tools in motor oil?

it happened in 2004 and has supposedly been "dealt" with.

with that said, i had surgery at Duke Raleigh in 2004 and would not recommend it. i vote for UNC.

It was Hydrolic fluid used in elevators.

Duke also had a girl die after a lung transplant because they didnt verify her blood type and gave her lungs with the wrong blood type

I've heard of several positive experiences at Duke. My mother had breast cancer a few years back and still talks about how great the quality of care was for her at Duke.

i had some major surgery here: http://www.ncspecialty.com/

it was awesome, had great care and generally had my own nurse. it was like staying in a hotel, i was disappointed when i had to leave. not sure if they do any kind of transplant stuff, that may be beyond them.

^^^ok, I remember that. The parents were from "other lands". Then when the little girl died, the 'rents didn't want to donate anything from the kid.

Gonna lean toward UNC then. Anyone have any real world experience with dialysis of any kind?

Comments/thoughts?

i had a reverse experience with UNC and Duke

UNC did some cray cray shit and Duke attempted to fix it. twice.

mistakes happen everywhere.

HOWEVER i would do more research about what each specific hospital could offer me for what i need (doctors, treatment, equipment, experience, trials, research, etc).

like, my mom had leukemia, we did the hospital research, chose to go to Duke. my dad has prostate cancer, did the research, he is at UNC.

my uncle had prostate cancer, went to UNC. he had a brain aneurysm, went to Duke.

etc etc.

booth are pretty good. I think it depends on the doctor you have.

...but I would go back to UNC for surgery.

So I find out that UNC also allows me to do all my testing in Rocky Mount (way closer than CH). That'll do, pig, that'll do!
