It's a shame they keep paving more and more of it Makes these records mean less.

(not that driving up that mountain at that speed doesn't take huge cojones)

yea..it was supposed to be paved this year, but they were behind schedule. there are gonna be some crazy low times next year. but yea, the record does mean less..it can't be compared to any of the past times.

Is it just me or could he have trimmed about 30 seconds off that? Some of the corners felt really slow...

everyone else broke... why show your cards if you don't have to.

Jeffery Zwart impressed me by driving a stock Porsche 911 GT2 from California and then basically just rolling up and entering the 2WD class, lol.

I'm going to go ahead and assume that guy knows Pikes Peak like Walter Rohrl knows the Ring. I doubt he had much more time left in him at all.

Porsche entered a showroom stock GT3 last year in LeMans, drove it from literally a dealership floor in Stuttgart to enter the car in the 24 hour enduro, I believe they got 14th place overall (!).

I agree, I watched it the first time and was like "damn, i could take some of these corners faster in my gf's camry".

he was like 20 seconds faster than Rhys Millen who is his main competition. Rhys ran about 10 seconds slower than his previous record as well so apparently the pavement did not make much of an improvement (however illogical that may be).

I thought Rhys was having brake problems...or am I confusing him with his dad Ron?

Pavement on pikes peak != faster times. It's very counterintuitive, but true. As the mountain has been paved, times have, on the whole, gotten worse over the past ~4 years.

It was Rhys, he claimed to lose 2 seconds per turn on the upper half of the mountain.

^ do you watch it at all? watch the dirt section they all look like they almost stop for the turns.

I was building a car to run it. Watched it for the last ten years. And yeah Tajima was taking it Real easy this year on the dirt. Go back and watch his runs in 1999-2002

Just thinking out loud, have no idea about this, but could the worse times overall be due to more ameturs trying? also, he broke the 10 minute barrier with dirt sections, so it stands to reason that the record will fall next year as long as someone has a clean run. The dirt sections were so much slower then the pavement.

No dirt at all will drastically reduce times. People will have straight slicks awd may not be nessisary and certainly won't have as much of a benefit. Cars will start looking like f1 cars (but awd). I mean imagine the current f1 chassis with an unlimited engine.

^yeah I agree. I think its the mixed conditions that have kept times slow.

mixed conditions and reliability have kept the record in place until this year. It's amazing how many of the "top" cars over the years can't complete the course.
