http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ant

Quote :
"Ants thrive in most ecosystems, and may form 15–25% of the terrestrial animal biomass."

[Edited on June 29, 2011 at 8:48 PM. Reason : considering how small ants are, that's a shit load of ants]

You all are thinking about this from a system point of view. This is the wrong way to go about solving this problem. Instead, you all should be thinking about this from the perspective of the most popular and powerful COMPONENTS.

So, what components are most successful among living creatures?

large brain to body ratio
this means the creature would also have to have something to protect this brain

sharp teeth
this creature would have to have a large mouth... kind of like chocolatervh

large dangly parts and over-enthused sex drive
kind of like theDuke866 and Ron Jeremy come to mind

throw some ideas out there, and then when we're finished brainstorming, I will take a whack and sketching out this animal

Ants don't have cankles.

Reconsider now.
