My lab is growing and we need some fresh science grads:


1) Position title: Part-Time Research Assistant, R&D

2) Job Description:

This is a part-time position to start with the possibility for full-time employment.
Responsibilities of the position include sample analysis along with related research projects and general laboratory maintenance. Good record-keeping is a must.

3) Qualifications:

- Bachelor’s degree in biology, microbiology, biochemistry or related field
- Basic computer skills and experience with Microsoft Office Programs

4) Responsibilities:

- Conduct and analyze samples for R&D.
- Assist with lab-related projects.
- Assist supervisor in managing the lab.

5) Hours: 20-30hr per week

Isn't "Entry Level Scientist" a bit of an oxymoron?

Its not like you can just walk in off the street, throw on a lab coat, and start researching cell therapy.

I'll throw my 2 cents in here for a moment for people considering this position.

My statement is predicated on the belief that MeatStick hired my friend for this same position 6 months or so ago.

With that being said he now works there full-time with salary and benefits I believe, and really seems to like what he's doing

so if you are considering this position dont let people like lewoods deter you

Its a part time position, basically an internship that counts as an interview. $10/hour for a small company in RTP is typical for this type of position.

You stated in your message to me that you looked at craigslist and expected at least $15 and thought it was asking too much (sarcastically) to get paid more than McDonalds...probably not the best approach towards a hiring manager.

And I agree...if you want to make big money as a "Scientist"...get a pHD and get tenure as a professor, the rest of the lab monkeys do this for the sheer pleasure of science.

^^^ Not really... there are Principle Process Development Scientists and Engineers at my job that make well over 100k/year with a BS. Some even have a HS diploma with tons of experience but I am not sure what role they play; maybe not principle scientists/engineers, but probably more of a technician role. At any rate, this is a lengthy process to get to this level - at least 10 years, unless you get lucky and get some very special experience.

This is nearly typical pay ($12-15 is a little more typical but for full-time) for someone with less than 5 years of experience for a PART-TIME position. If you don't know this field and make comments like this you make yourself look like a troll. Also, just because someone has a MS or Phd doesn't mean they have the eye-hand-coordination, and a good repetition skill to work in a lab at a good pace... maybe they know some science but are not only bad at performing it, but also bad at teaching it and get stuck doing technician work because they have the grand epiphany that an advanced degree is not worth it in all cases.
