so WHY IN THE FUCK IS IT SO HARD TO SET UP A GOD DAMNED HOME NETWORK THAT WORKS IN WINDOWS

I can't be the only asshole that has a huge file on one PC (vista) that wants to transfer it to his other computer (win7) through a router or some shit

In 20+ years of the Windows operating system this hasn't gotten any better

I really just don't understand how, well into the era of multiple-computer households, this is still such a trial-and-error process with Windows. Windows is like the Time Warner Cable of operating systems

http://www.techrepublic.com/blog/window-on-windows/how-do-i-make-windows-7-homegroup-content-accessible-to-vista-and-xp/1910 ??

i had a few stumbles getting shared folders between 7 (64bit) and XP. yeah, it's really not as simple as it should be. Unfortunately, I don't remember what exactly I did

I'm about to have to leave for a couple hours. If someone could be so kind as to offer a conceptual solution via PM or post, I would be much obliged.

Basically I have a >10Gb .iso that I'm trying to transfer to another computer, and it would take more time than it's worth to compress and burn to multiple DVDs.

The file is on my desktop, Vista 32-bit, and I want it on my laptop, Win7 32-bit. At the moment they're both hard-wired to my router, but I could just as easily hook them to each other. The laptop is wireless-capable, the desktop is not.

Thanks in advance for any actual help and also for anything that makes me laugh. Bonus points if you can do both.

I have this exact same issue and just gave up on resolving it.

For some reason printer sharing works but I can not see folders.

I think that vista sucks. A few years ago, I think I just ended up using a crossover cable

also, have you tried doing this naked? I've found that things usually go my way when I'm naked.

do you have any way to plug the hard drive from one computer into the other (adapters, sata dock, external drive/case)? a little extreme, but would work perfectly.

You aren't stupid, Windows is notoriously faggety about doing something that should be sofa king simple. This very issue had me contemplating a Mac for the first time in my life...and I've traditionally bad mouthed Aaple fanbois any chance I can get.

Thanks for the support, you guys are the victoria's secret padded bra to the tits of my inanity

I've tired of messing with it, I'm just gonna let winrar compress it over the next two hours while I go eat dinner and do cock pushups to compensate for my waning brainpower. maybe it'll fit on a dvd then.

SERIOUSLY?

so it's really a folder containing 3 files

i decided to do one .iso first, 5.06 GB

winrar spent 45min compressing, and the end file size? 4.79 GB.

I think the world is trying to tell me something

i aint need no stinkin' help from the likes of you

i'll just get one of my dorky little girl-toys to do it for me, and while she's at it i can copy her homework

all i have to do is allow her just enough miscommunication of my kindness to keep her wrapped around my pinky

and let her take me to bojangles and a movie then tell her something came up and i need to go to my "friend's" house that we both know I'm nailing even though she treats me like shit

and maybe send her a winky face now and then

How about you just give me a shout sometime and I'll get it working for you. Or at least give you a solution that works.
