You should maybe have a look @ that "Who's Still Unemployed" thread to get a glimpse of what you may be in for should you go through with this rash decision.

And I'd +1 on finding a gig before ditching. Employment for most fields is ~ right now.

I'm pissed off at my job right now. Got into a big fight with a guy I work with and get along with. Ended up telling him "fuck you" in the middle of the office. All of this because some shit that his boss was told to fix a year and a half ago did not get done, it got thrown into my lap 3 or so months ago. I worked with production to come up with a solution and it was given back to our maintenance/machine shop department to have a part made so we could fix the issue. Production told me they were going to get the tooling (as they are responsible for such thing), they contacted the right person to get it done and they kept following up on it as it should be. The guy drug his feet and took his sweet ass time. When he finally finished the drawings we needed the material ordered. We all were told by the manager of the maintenance department the shit had been ordered and that it was in the works.

Last Friday, the maintenance scheduler checked the material status and found that it had not been ordered. And today the maintenance scheduler told me that it was my fault that the maintenance manager had not ordered the shit like he said that he had or that his own people didn't do their fucking job... Our maintenance department is a fucking joke and they'll go after everyone else but themselves to cover their own ass. The only reason the maintenance scheduler went after me is because he didn't know what the fuck he was talking about or what was going on. He accused me of not following up on shit when I had been in contact numerous times during the past month or so while the guy doing the drawings was working on it.

I have been frustrated with their department for the past few months and I finally flipped out after he started going after my ass and accusing me of "not following up" on this particular item, when I had in fact been in contact and followed up in addition with production several fucking times over this item... But I guess those don't count and it is my fault someone didn't do what they said they had done...

The shit's going to get done. I later apologized to the guy for cursing at him. The guy I was cursing at we actually get along. We've both been frustrated with Maintenance in general and today we were just very frustrated after both of us were at the plant until 9 AM after some bullshit with maintenance.

After the argument I just went outside and took a walk and cooled off a bit and went back in an hour after that and apologized.

I understand his frustration and I think he was just taking some of it out on me because I'm the engineer. He can't take out his frustration with his boss to his boss when his boss is the problem (his boss is the guy who said material had been ordered to several people). This isn't the first time this has happened where this guy has lied to people (as I found out a little later today) and said something was happening when it really hadn't. On Monday his ass had gotten in trouble because about 3 or 4 months ago he should have ordered some tools (just standard tools, like hammers, wrenches, ect) for some Germans who are coming over. It would have taken him all of 5 or so minutes to do this. Well, 3 or 4 months later and he never ordered the tools and he has people down his throat because the Germans are coming next month.

I think he's very frustrated because when his boss doesn't do what he said he will do, it falls into his lap and he's tired of it. This particular item is just a long list of other shit that he suddenly became responsible for. I think he felt because I was involved in this that I should have followed up on the ordering of the material and double check to see if it was really ordered. I honestly don't have time to check to see if someone else did their job in a department I don't work in on every single step. I have my own responsibilities and my own projects that I am responsible for, and to be quite honest, if I basically redo and double check the work of the maintenance manager, I will never be able to do my own job.

But he's in a bad situation because his boss doesn't do what he said he would, his other coworkers also don't do what they said they would and it falls into his lap and he just assumes responsibility of it. I try to help him out when I can just as he tries to when he can. But the source of the problem is that because he picks up their slack they are never held accountable.

regardless of the economy, quitting my job was the best thing i did.

it was killing me, my relationship, my family, and my long-term goals.

i stayed far longer than I should have, but i waited until i literally was shaking from being so angry to go ahead and leave. that way, at least i could say i stuck it out until the options were a) get violent or b) get on with life and go be happy.

happy is always the way to go. (that said, i would have LOVED to punch my boss in the throat one or two good times).

heh sounds like my situation. I left a life-draining job, wasn't sure what I'd end up doing, and now I got a job doing exactly what I want to be doing with some pretty cool people.

Money's less important if you genuinely enjoy your job and look forward to going to it. You still have to make enough to pay your bills and stuff but you know

^Yeah, I know there's a lot to be said for the shock value of walking out on the spot, but I have a hard time justifying creating a difficult situation for myself just to spite the company. Line up some other shit THEN walk out, if you're dead set on a dramatic exit.
