I used to have a gif of me pricking my finger and sealing an envelope with the blood I used in my email sig.

Management made me change it pretty quickly.

Totally depends on who you're talking to.

V/r, when I'm talking to somebody who's seriously high-ranking in an organization or who I am basically saying "you're wrong and didn't read my work before sending this to me".

Thanks, when I'm contacting anybody about most anything else and am just signing with something generic and corporate.

Oh, and then there's the standard blahblah at the bottom of each corporate email. My private emails I just sign with -A (why it's the first letter of my first name!).

Actually they're never right because they're trying to argue on hard fact established by codes and standards followed by every engineer in the industry and they actually didn't read something before they completed it. It's never anything different.

Go away.

so they got to their position by not knowing anything about the industry or how to run a business?

your company sucks if that is the case

Our sales department and another department which handles a lot of leases has a massive turnover because their job sucks and they don't get paid much of anything at all. Most people don't understand anything about basic structural engineering concepts and certain people will just assume engineering did it wrong.

You'll get an email "error in structural analysis", you'll look through their list, and then you are 99% of the time able to refute their claim. It's shit like "well this structure is clearly in so and so higher speed wind zone" which prompted me to look up the GPS coordinates for it and show them that it is in fact in the lower speed wind zone over here. Then there's "hi i noticed you didn't include so and so in your report can you please correct this and get it back to me ASAP", which you then go to check on and sure enough the data they want is in a nice big bold table on the second page of the short and simply worded report. Then somebody calls out an error in your report and you find it's because somebody put the cover page for a report for a different structure (or the wrong revision of the report) on the cover page of your report. Then you catch another error because somebody randomly created another folder for a structure without correctly searching for the existing one so a structural analysis gets run for the wrong loads because they just put the wrong loads into the wrong folder. Then somebody argues with you that you can use so and so lower wind speed to evaluate a structure per so and so code, then you make the point that per the state's requirements you have to use a certain collection of county websites. This person continues to argue with you just to argue with you because they think they can abuse you, then you get the senior-most engineer to back you up and they realize they've been doing any towers in those state incorrectly for years.

On a given week my job entails getting stupid shit slung at me from people who consistently never read a problem for comprehension and fire off an email about an error that couldn't possibly have existed in my work, or digging through a tower that has been run through six different engineers, none of whom felt that they should do their job, so I spend two hours verifying and correcting things per photographs because our docs suck and people are too lazy to look at a dozen photos to validate their work. Then there's those silly requests from the outside departments with people who have poor training, who aren't paid well, so you basically have a bunch of folks who might be better off working at walmart handling complicated questions about leases and loads and how to sort out problems with solutions that involve several shades of grey. Then there's the weekly policy changes about *insert thing nobody really cares about* here that we have to adhere to because the guy in the other office who runs his office with an iron fist thinks we're going to cave to his every whim. For some reason we cave 80% of the time because the manager doesn't stand up to the guy's wacky requests. My company is the biggest in the business, which is why alllll this shit is just an even bigger mindfuck. It's corporate america, rapidly approaching its worst.

Also, higher ups don't understand a lot about what we do (SVP of engineering is an executive with no experience with engineering) or the nitpicky crap about the details and nuances of the code(s) so they aren't the ones who send you the dumb emails. Their requests are usually just some sort of special project or a mindfuck of a problem that probably can't be solved. At least their work isn't monotony that makes me want to blow my brains out in a given week.

[edit:] People NEVER double-check shit before firing off an email, so your job becomes spending an hour a day correcting shit because people are too lazy to do their jobs correctly.

Best part is I don't get a pay raise that's any better than the coworkers I have that crank out the shit work I correct on a weekly basis. Boss can't provide any justification for this.

And yeah, it is a goddamn wall of text. I'll justify and defend my original snarky comments because I'm tired of people in corporate america being so nice to your face then stabbing you in the back over something they misinterpreted and not apologizing for their mistake, let alone acknowledging their goddamn incompetence.

This is me on any given day: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V3xhMOXT1Z8#t=1m31s
