The icons next to the threads stopped indicating if there are any new posts. Any ideas? I tried cleaning out my cookies and temp internet files, but that didnt seem to help. 8/2/2011 10:54:52 AM |

It's the same for me. I get 'new' posts if I remain on the site for awhile and refresh. I assume it has to do with the cookie or the auto-login stuff. 8/2/2011 12:25:45 PM |

you know i've noticed this every now and then too, but i've always kinda shrugged off the new/old as pretty unreliable to begin with. or at least, i never really could tell as a user exactly how it was working, so i guess i got in the habit of ignoring it most of the time. but since you made the thread and I got a PM about this exact issue the other day, I took a closer look at that part of the original code today
this is the way new/old works - say I log in today at 9 am. at 10 am I log out. at 11 am I log in again. Any thread that has had activity since 9 am is considered new. what's happening is that for some people, when they log in it creates 2 sessions instead of 1. so if I log in at 11 am, it marks every thread as old because it thinks the last time I logged in was also 11 am.
I haven't figured out why some people are getting logged in twice yet though. If I figure that out I'll let y'all know 8/2/2011 12:50:03 PM |

you also have to click logout for it to ever work. i dont. so... everything is almost always marked new. 8/2/2011 2:01:27 PM |

This is actually just a recent problem for me. I don't know if the last maintenance had anything to do with it, but it seems like more than a coincidence. 8/2/2011 4:03:13 PM |

I too thought what was new was a random threshold 8/2/2011 4:20:58 PM |

^^ you are correct actually. when i looked at the logs earlier, i could see that it had been occurring regularly for at least the last year. but now i see that starting last monday (the day after the server maintenance) it started occurring 15x more often.
so....i will keep looking into it 8/2/2011 4:38:26 PM |

Cool, thanks. This is definitely something that just started for me recently, it has been very reliable for me in the past. 8/3/2011 9:18:11 AM |

happened again when I logged in tonight...
apparently, tdub doesn't like me switching IP addresses both times it happened the first time I logged in from home after being at work 8/9/2011 10:00:14 PM |

Paging qntm....
Did you do something to fix this? Seems to have gone away the past couple of days. 9/9/2011 9:27:02 AM |

if it's user-based on stored on the server, then why is it different for each machine I log in with? i.e., on my phone, almost all are new since I don't log on often. but on my laptops it's a little more accurate. 9/12/2011 12:10:04 PM |
