Soooo, a lot of you may remember the comanche "buggy" that myself, Dr Pepper and Jeepman were working on since aug 2009. Well, i love that truck and built and wheeled it up since a stocker, but as it was nearing completion of its newest phase, i totally lost motivation. I caught the racing bug and have been running B Class in ECORS in the 2010 and 2011 seasons. Now i need a race buggy. Here is the old buggy as I am currently disassembling
Since I am slow as molasses, i knew the way to go was with a prebent chassis. after contacting a couple builders and learnign of their backlogs, i found this, which will save me even more time:
Here is a picture when it was together:
My plan is to put it back together pretty similar to how it was before, with the exception of riding 3-4 inches lower.
Now I am in the parts stockpiling phase
I have a GM 6.0 LQ4 in the mail, and have purchased a rebuilt th400. I will be running a 5.44 ratio atlas 4 speed transfer case. I will be running my HP60 and 14bolt out of the comanche, along with the 39.5" iroks.
Right now I am in the teardown phase of the old rig, and hope to begin setting up the links in the new one in the next couple weeks. 8/2/2011 8:51:47 PM |

you know, cummins powered rock-crawlers dont really do it for me. The combination of turbo lag, smoke, and wheel speed range just end up with a not-so-efficient package.
On the other hand, a blown LS7 buggy is where you get the swelling from...

anyway, adam's happily summing up the cost of all the parts going on this buggy

One of you guys should buy my Ram and use the drivetrain from it...Dodge V-10 gasser, NV4500, Dana 60 front and Dana 70 rear. Not sure what t-case it has, but I'm sure it's fairly stout. 8/4/2011 4:38:22 PM |

well, it's no 800 hp LS7, but something came in the mail today
I have made a spreadsheet of the stuff i need to buy. i already have axles, chassis, engine, trans half of my coilovers, seats, all my link parts, tires and wheels, basically all major mechanical items except for my transfer case. The list of other remaining parts is up to ~$8k so far and Im sure i have missed a TON of items. Oh well, My plan is to do it right, and hang onto it for a while, so no shortuts.....

Just a run of the mill 6.0, this is the lo-po version, the escalades and H2s got a higher HP one. , the LQ9
wikipedia says it has 300 hp and 360 torque rating. I plan to run some minor mods, cam, shorty headers, computer tune and maybe something for a little more fuel.

Damn that LS7 is nasty
And yeah, I wasn't so much getting off on the cummins jeep for any competitive advantage, more that bulletproof post-apocalyptic zombie-slaying badassery element
And it sounds freakin gnarly 8/6/2011 3:10:00 AM |
