fast five wasn't bad for a movie about street racing starring non-actors.

fast five was not a "good movie".

Paul Walker's a good actor.

Just because it's a silly movie doesn't mean it can't be and isn't a good movie.

C'mon man.

Award winning? no.
Entertaining? Yes.
More entertaining than Drive? Yes.

Actually, looking at this stupid thread title for the 50th time, I'll go on record as saying that Transporter was more entertaining than Drive as well. At least it didn't desperately try to be something that it wasn't.

Explain to me what Drive tried desperately to be that it wasn't.

I mean, if you'd like for me to copy and paste all the things I said on page 2 I can.

Or you can just go back and re-read it if you're that interested.

What you posted on page two is some nebulous concept that could apply to almost any movie.

Moreover, the whole of your suggestion is simply that the film was made with a particular audience in mind. Isn't that the case with most movies?

drive was awesome. an understated awesome. that shit goes over peoples heads sometimes. but to compare it negatively to fast five? thats just... well that just says more about your own personal tastes in movies than the relative merits of said movie.

i thought comparing it to Fast Five was just a joke. But if anyone seriously did, I think it says more about their lack of understanding that those two movies are not even close to being in the same genre.

Personally, I found Fast Five to be entertaining and fun. But it's a completely different kind of movie than Drive. It's like comparing Tinker Tailor Solider Spy to Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol. Story-wise they're both about spies, but they're a completely different type of movie otherwise. I think both do what they were trying to do fairly well --- that goes for Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy/Mission Impossible and Drive/Fast Five.

So... I didn't like the movie because I didn't understand it? Or because it wasn't my personal taste?

^^ I actually agree with you (i had only seen the original and maybe bits and pieces of some of the others in the franchise). But the fact is that that has absolutely nothing to do with whether or not Fast Five was any good or not.

It's pretty good and entertaining if you evaluate it for what it's trying to be, which is just a summer action movie.

I haven't seen the first one but Fast Five is exponentially better than 2 fast.

i saw the first, the second one, and bits and parts of others. Fast Five was hands down the best of those I saw.

finally saw this the other day, was solid but not spectacular. had higher expectations for a movie with a 92 on rt. definitely agree that its an indie movie disguised as an action movie.

I loved that movie, they could have laid of the slow romantic silences between him and that chick, but I loved it

I think they used Ryan Gosling well, I am not a big fan of his... but I feel like he fit that character very well.

Also this movie is one of the few where you actually get to see all the gore of a shotgun blast to the head.

I thought this movie was terrible.
He didn't act, he just walked around saying little and looking angry.

Yeah, Ryan Gosling is one of the quietest, angriest dudes in Hollywood. No acting there at all.

i mean there are movies that do well with minimal dialogue but the story is told through impactful presentation

with Drive weve seen all this stuff before. We've seen the villians, we've seen the love story, we've seen this flawless bad ass hero. We've seen this movie. I was so frustrated when i finished watching it, i was floored when i saw that this movie had high reviews

i flat out told my GF when we were done watching it., we looked at each other and said that movie sucked. i didnt think there was anything artistic about it it was campy.

Still love this movie.

Would rather re-watch this vs any Fast and Furious movie.
