Sick of TWC's bullshit. Turning in my box and modem on Monday and looking into U-Verse (any other options? No Charter at my place, not that I'd want it), but their plans/prices don't really seem any better than TWC...is the stability/service good enough to make it worth the switch? Don't get me wrong, not giving one more penny to them is enough of a reason for me, but for practicality's sake let's compare the two as if TWC wasn't Satan's own endeavor.
Since I'm going back to school I don't plan on watching much (or any) TV, so I was looking at the 80-channel/DVR and 3Mbps package for $49 (for 6 months, then $92). I'm worried that the internet will be too slow, any of you have any experience with this setup?] 8/5/2011 10:47:49 PM |

Am I the only person who's never had an issue with TWC? I get digital cable with Showtime and the sports package with the 30mbps/5mbps Road Runner package, and I think my bill is like $124 after taxes. 8/5/2011 10:52:23 PM |

I dropped cable TV a while back, and I don't miss it much. I would like to find a more affordable internet provider, as TWC has jacked up my rate to $65 a month for the standard road runner.
This thread is relevant to my interests. 8/5/2011 10:52:26 PM |

LOL. I agree with the sentiment; I shouldn't have to call every 6 months to get the best price. But spending 100s of dollars a year that you could save with 30 minutes of work is just dumb.
Its easy as hell. Set aside thirty minutes for the call. Tell them you're thinking about cancelling because the price is too much and they'll connect you to some retention dude. Tell retention dude I only wana pay x, and they'll fiddle around for a while and come back with a number. Hell, I know people that just call and directly ask to be connected to retention.
My bill got bumped to ~180 last month and I called and got it back down to 130ish and they even refunded some money for the month I paid 180 for.

my folks went with u-verse and it SUCKED. big time. yes, you had a DVR, but only in one room, and all the boxes share the same TV lines, so if the DVR is recording on all of them, you can't use any of the other boxes. Oh, and it doesn't warn you on the other boxes. It just shuts the box down. 8/6/2011 1:46:56 AM |

uh none of that is true
it will tell you that all sources are being used and let you switch to one of the channels that is being recorded
the DVR is in one spot, but can be accessed from any box in the house; on any tv.

I've had Uverse Internet since I moved into the house and it's never been down. Any time my Internet was out was because of something I did.
I enjoyed the TV service but the pq wasn't as good as DirecTV, so I let it go. 8/6/2011 4:05:36 AM |

Does anyone have any recent experiences with uverse for tv and internet? I've only ever had time warner, and haven't experienced any major issues with them, but uverse is cheaper at the moment and has a few more features than twc. I've had horrible luck with our TWC, but a treeline blocks our few of the South, so we can't switch to DirectTV, which we loved. How is U-verse? 2/14/2013 11:13:29 AM |

no complaints with Uverse, still happy as can be
we had some issues when we moved with transferring the service to our new house, HUGE pain in the ass (not normal I take it), but they made everything good and have been very helpful.
would recommend. MILES beyond TWC in pretty much every way I can think of.
also, addressing my concern in the OP, the internet is plenty fast and I actually get the speeds I'm paying for, unlike TWC.

I've had U-Verse for two years not in Charlotte without a single problem.
I've never paid for HBO/Cinemax once as you can add/remove from your susbscription online every 3 months and never pay for it. so for 3 months i'll have HBO, then HBO/Cinemax, then back to HBO.
the lowest internet (3mbs) is ok. I can still stream netflix, play ps3, and download a torrent. but it starts to struggle when multitasking or watching YouTube videos. I moved up to the next level internet because of an offer that made it the same price as the 3mbs for 6 months. It's a lot better.
I only have 1 TV, so DVR usage is never an issue. I pay about $140 a month now that all of my initial offers have expired. ] 2/14/2013 11:19:56 AM |

I got sick of TWC so I got U-Verse a year and a half ago. I have never had a single problem. The internet is fast and the customer service is amazing. We have 3 DVR boxes, the fastest internet, all HD channels, all sports channels (had to have outdoors and sportsman channels), and all the premium movie channels and we pay 140 a month. Well worth it. 2/14/2013 11:25:57 AM |

What package? What extra premiums/sports packages? Is that $140 after tax?
I've got U300, 12Mbps internet (which i toggle online every 6 months for $5 off), and I also have HBO/Cinemax (which I toggle online every 3 months to get it free) and my bill is around $150/$155 after tax.
The fastest internet (24Mbps) alone is $66 per month, or $61 if you toggle. How do you get all that TV service (including the $10 HD fee) and boxes for only an additional $80 per month?]2/14/2013 11:39:38 AM |

I only paid about $120 dollars for all that for the first 3 months. After that it was raised to about $180. I called and said I couldn't afford that and I would like to drop some of my options. Once I said that they transfered me to promotions. They asked me a few questions and then they gave me all the same options for $140 dollars if I agreed to a one year contract. i have had both TWC and U-verse, and have to say i'm indifferent between the two. u-verse has better customer service, but is a little more expensive. the big downside to u-verse is only being able to watch HD in one room...you have to choose to "interrupt" another tv if someone else already has HD on elsewhere. can't stand that. 2/14/2013 3:11:20 PM |

You sure about that? I've only encountered that when watching/recording 3 or 4 HD programs at once, and trying to watch another.

we can watch the same HD channel in both rooms, otherwise it always makes me interrupt another tv. it brings up a menu and wont let me proceed until i choose to switch to sd, interrupt a tv, or choose a recording.

i see it now, and that simply is not the case for our tv.
AND, in the rare event we record shows, we have to watch the show to record it in HD. (iirc)
neither of us really watch enough tv to make an issue of this, and we just thought it was the same for everyone.
i don't know anything about our plan, my roommate has it under her name. she probably popped for the absolute cheapest hd option since it costs extra with u-verse.
