i took intro to AI in 1998 or 1999, can't remember.

i am seriously thinking about doing this.

it is quite intensive though. 8 assignments and 2 exams in 2 months.

My only hesitation is that I don't want to go out and buy yet another edition of Russell & Norvig. Great book and all, but since I already own the first AND second edition, I really don't want to drop any money to buy the third. Those two already took enough of my money.

Thanks for the heads up! This seems like a really great opportunity and I'll definitely be taking advantage of it.

This is awesome...

I bought that book to read for fun, i'm about 1/5th the way through. It would be great to have some context to the information.

I just bought it from Amazon so I should get it on Tuesday or Wednesday...definitely looks like a good book to have regardless.

I'm just now taking Linear Algebra this semester, but I did all that shit in high school too. Hopefully I'll be able to keep up. I am super psyched about this, though.

@lewisje I can't read that on the toilet. Toilets are things that regular humans, like myself, use to dispose of waste.

i just downloaded it... 1152 pages in a 44.8 mb pdf file. the quality is not good. many of the figures are not legible, as well as random words spread throughout the pages (possibly in another font in the book). i can't believe someone sat there scanning that many pages. and if they bothered, the least they could have done was choose a bit higher resolution so that at least the book could be used. the way it is now... if you can't read a table/figure/diagram, what are you going to do? email the professors to ask what figure X on page X says? that would be weird. and there are many figures which have legibility problems.

and btw, the TOC is missing

i've started watching the lectures for AI and ML too. i'm pretty hype about these classes - subjects i've been wanting to spend more time in for a long time.

5-10 each maybe? the video lectures are pretty easy to digest and the book reads pretty well too. i can definitely see myself spending too much time on homework and projects though so we'll just have to see

Awesome. I think I'm already failing CSC 520. What really stings is to have a homework due a week after an exam that covers material on that exam.

I'm tempted to do "CS 373: Programming a Robotic Car" (http://youtu.be/aI8SQCEUYrg)

However, I imagine a lot of the concepts won't be very new. Silly question: can anyone speculate on how much value one of these classes has a on resume?

Speculation: Very little, unless the person you're talking to is aware of why these courses are novel. Otherwise it's just going to sound like you're bragging because you took some classes.

yeah unfortunately i have to agree - particularly if you're looking for a run of the mill corporate IT position or putting your resume on monster.com or something. at the least though, it lets people know that you're interested and invested in your career. some places care about that *shrug*
