The pledge of allegiance was written by a socialist. Since it's official adoption, we've changed it twice to distance ourselves from:

a) Nazis, by changing from the bellamy salute pictured below to hand over heart.
b) Commies, by adding "under God".

Before that, we even clarified the wording so those silly immigrants wouldn't get confused about which flag they were actually pledging to.

since the above mentioned reference to god is in there, a lot of schools have opted to not do it any more

from wikipedia:

Quote :
"In 2006, in the Florida case Frazier v. Alexandre, 434 F.Supp.2d 1350 (S.D. Fla. May 31, 2006), a federal district court in Florida ruled that a 1942 state law requiring students to stand and recite the Pledge of Allegiance violates the First and Fourteenth Amendments of the U.S. Constitution.[26] As a result of that decision, a Florida school district was ordered to pay $32,500 to a student who chose not to say the pledge and was ridiculed and called "unpatriotic" by a teacher.[27]

In 2009, a Montgomery County, Maryland, teacher berated and had school police remove a 13-year-old girl who refused to say the Pledge of Allegiance in the classroom. The student's mother, assisted by the American Civil Liberties Union of Maryland, sought and received an apology from the teacher, as state law and the school's student handbook both prohibit students from being forced to recite the Pledge.[28]
On March 11, 2010, the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit upheld the words "under God" in the Pledge of Allegiance in the case of Newdow v. Rio Linda Union School District.[29][30] In a 2–1 decision, the appellate court ruled that the words were of a "ceremonial and patriotic nature" and did not constitute an establishment of religion.[29] Judge Stephen Reinhardt dissented, writing that "the state-directed, teacher-led daily recitation in public schools of the amended 'under God' version of the Pledge of Allegiance... violates the Establishment Clause of the Constitution."[31]

On November 12, 2010, in a unanimous decision,[32] the United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit in Boston affirmed a ruling by a New Hampshire lower federal court which found that the pledge's reference to God doesn't violate students' rights.[33] A United States Supreme Court appeal of this decision was denied on June 13, 2011.[34][35]

About half the states encourage schools to recite the pledge.[36"

JoCo NC had to say that shit.

Back in elementary school I'd always be a little rusty in the first week of school after not reciting it all summer.

I remember prayer in school and the pledge.

Then again I was also told in eighth grade health that AIDS was sent to earth to punish gay people.

Not only that but in elementary school (Charlotte) I got to go to the office more than once and lead the entire school in the pledge over the pa. Oh, and we had to do it in ROTC in high school. Nowadays I find saying some sort of pledge to be kinda creepy especially since the only justification for doing so is "because it's patriotic".

see, I can get the ROTC classes doing it. that's the only place I ever saw it done.

but then again, I went to a football game in Hendersonville and went all when they had a prayer at midfield before the game.

When I was in 1st grade we said the pledge of allegiance every morning and prayer before lunch every afternoon. I remember there would always be one kid that told on another kid for not having their eyes closed during prayer. Silly kids.

and I went to Booker T. Washington Elementary School in Clarkton, NC

I had to say the pledge in elementary school. I'm pretty sure my high school still has prayer before games but I don't know because I stay the fuck away from there. Both in NC.

"Today I learned"

That quote means a lot because what you learned today didn't exist to you yesterday. Yet, you will view America in a whole new light.

What does that mean for all of the stuff you have never learned?

And what does that mean for all of the false information that people could potentially inject into your life of learning?

I didn't have to do it in high school but I worked as a sub there a few years ago and they do it now.

I was like "WTF yall have to do this now? What is this 4th grade!?" and they were like "I know, right?"

Today I Learned I can make some killer wings.

http://www.macheesmo.com/2009/10/sticky-wings/

Quote :
"Sticky Wings
Yield: Serves 4-6.

Prep Time: 20 minutesTotal Time: 1 hour 15 minutes
Ingredients:

3-4 pounds chicken wings, about 3 dozen

Dry Rub:
1/4 Cup packed brown sugar
2 Tablespoons ancho chile powder (see my note below on making the rub or you can use regular chile powder)
2 Tablespoons finely ground coffee (espresso beans are called for in the original but I just used a dark roast bean)
1 1/2 Tablespoons Kosher salt
1 Tablespoon hot paprika
1 Tablespoon onion powder
1 Tablespoon garlic powder
1 Tablespoon fresh ground pepper
1 Teaspoon dried thyme, crumble it up

Sticky Sauce:
1/2 Cup rice vinegar
1 large shallot, finely chopped
2 Tablespoons fresh ginger, peeled and finely chopped
1/4 Cup sugar
1-3 Tablespoons hot chili sauce (like Sriracha. I used 3 1/2 Tablespoons because I like them not nuclear spicy)
6 Tablespoons canola or vegetable oil

1/4 Cup cilantro, chopped for garnish (optional)

Helpful Equipment:
Coffee Grinder (for espresso and also grinding ancho peppers if you are making your own chili powder)"

Iredell county, late 90s: pledge of allegiance in the morning, the lord's prayer in the locker room before football games. If it weren't for playing football I probably never would have learned the latter
